Inquiry into teaching behavior of supervisors in teacher education laboratories by Margaret Lindsey( Book )

2 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 335 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This document emphasizes the importance of inquiry into teaching behavior by supervisors in professional laboratories and suggests ways and means of conducting that inquiry. The document is divided into three areas: a) an examination of the current and predicted nature of professional laboratory experiences in the education of teachers, b) a review of some exploratory studies of the teaching behavior of persons supervising in laboratories, and c) a consideration of the status of knowledge with regard to supervisory behavior in professional laboratories. The first segment reviews professional laboratory experiences in teacher education in 1970 and studies teaching in the teacher education laboratory. Exploratory studies of supervisory teacher behavior include an analysis of teaching behavior as the substance of conferences with student teachers, a promissory model for analyzing and describing verbal interaction between college supervisors and student teachers during supervisory conferences, a study of the cooperating teacher as teaching tutor, a review of the work of one college supervisor with cooperating teachers in off-campus schools, and a study of the college supervisor as seminar teacher. The third segment reviews the findings and procedures of the study and indicates potential contributions of the results of the study. An appendix of systems of categories for the description and analysis of supervisory teaching in teacher education laboratories is included. (Mjm)

Overcoming personal racism : what can I do? by Derald Wing Sue( Visual )

2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 283 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Based upon testimony before President Clinton's Race Advisory Board, Dr. Sue suggests what each of us can do to overcome our personal racism. He first speaks to the barriers that prevent us from being honest with ourselves, including emotional roadblocks regarding racism, and the difficulty in understanding the oppressor position one occupies. He extracts five basic principles of how one overcomes racism: (1) learn about people of color from sources within the group, (2) learn from healthy and strong people of the culture, (3) learn from experiential reality, (4) learn from constant vigilance of your biases and fears, and (5) learn from being committed to personal action against racism."--Website
