Encyclopedia of computer science by Anthony Ralston( Book )

83 editions published between 1976 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 3,178 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This edition contains over 100 completely new articles, ranging from artificial life to computer ethics, data mining to Java, mobile computing to quantum computing and software safety to the World Wide Web. In addition the 623 articles have been rigorously scrutinized and subjected to update, deletion or merging with new material." "Each article elaborates its subject, allowing readers to benefit from a substantive discussion that they can readily apply to their work. Additionally, each article has been written by a carefully selected and distinguished specialist." "Like the articles, all the visual material has undergone editorial scrutiny. For this edition artwork has been uniformly redrawn and updated to underpin the visual power of the Encyclopedia. This edition of the Encyclopedia extends the color insert that first appeared in the previous edition to 16 pages, spotlighting advanced computer applications and providing further evidence of the explosive growth of the use of computer-generated graphics technology in the science and entertainment industries." "Within each major heading are scores of articles that provide the user with uniquely broad yet detailed coverage. Cross-references can be found at the beginning of articles, helping to direct the reader immediately to related material."--Jacket
A first course in numerical analysis by Anthony Ralston( Book )

101 editions published between 1965 and 2001 in 7 languages and held by 1,614 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Autor probírá aproximace pomocí polynomů, interpolace, numerický výpočet derivace, numerickou kvadraturu a sumaci a numerické řešení obyčejných diferenciálních rovnic. Zabývá se aproximacemi-metodami nejmenších čtverců a minimalizace maximální chyby, řešením rovnic, vlastními čísly a vlastními vektory matic

The Future of college mathematics : proceedings of a conference/workshop on the first two years of college mathematics by Anthony Ralston( Book )

18 editions published in 1983 in English and German and held by 541 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The conference of which these are the proceedings was held in June-July 1982 at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The purpose was to discuss the restructuring of the first two years of college mathematics to provide some balance between the traditional calculus-linear algebra sequence, and discrete mathematics. The volume contains 21 papers presenting arguments both for and against such a change and some ideas as to what a new curriculum might look like. Such topics as symbolic manipulation and algorithms problem solving and modeling, mathematical needs in other subject areas, statistics, and remedial mathematics were included. The papers were generally distributed before the conference, and the discussion transcript follows each paper. The third day of the meeting was devoted to three workshops, two concerned with the curriculum itself and one focusing on the problems of implementing a new curriculum. (Mns)

First published in 1986, the first ICMI study is concerned with the influence of computers and computer science on mathematics and its teaching in the last years of school and at tertiary level. In particular, it explores the way the computer has influenced mathematics itself and the way in which mathematicians work, likely influences on the curriculum of high-school and undergraduate students, and the way in which the computer can be used to improve mathematics teaching and learning. The book comprises a report of the meeting held in Strasbourg in March 1985, plus several papers contributed to that meeting
