Reading and understanding research by Lawrence F Locke( Book )

35 editions published between 1998 and 2017 in English and held by 1,369 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"There is virtually no way to complete one's education without encountering a research report. Navigating through the mysteries of reports is the subject of this helpful new volume from the authors of the best-selling Proposals That Work. The authors presume no special background in research, and begin by introducing and framing the notion of reading research within a wider social context. Next they offer insight on when to seek out research, locating and selecting the right reports, and how to help evaluate research for trustworthiness. A step-by-step reading of reports from qualitative and quantitative studies follows, and the final chapters examine in greater detail the different types of research to be encountered and how to examine the research more critically." "Reading and Understanding Research is based on the notion that helping to demystify the process of consuming research will not only make for better students, but will help make for better research. It will be an ideal supplemental text for any novice researcher (and those who teach them) and will appeal across the disciplines."--Back cover

Patterns of Error in Kinesthetic Perception by Waneen Wyrick Spirduso( Book )

1 edition published in 1973 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The purposes of this investigation were to compare an individual's magnitude and direction of error in three tests of kinesthetic perception, and to determine whether individuals tend generally to reduce, augment, or moderate stimuli on all three tests. A single group design was employed, using a sample of 34 male students. The variables of joint angle reproduction (jar), muscular tension reproduction, and limb load discrimination were measured in random order for each subject individually by the investigator and one assistant. It was found that the group as a whole was much more accurate at joint angle reproduction and weight discrimination than at muscle tension reproduction; between the two primarily proprioceptive tasks, jar and muscular tension reproduction, no relationship was found. Jar and muscular tension reproduction appear to be highly specific abilities and depend largely on short-term memory traces. (Jb)
Proposals that Work: A Guide for Planning Dissertations and GrantProposals. Third Edition by Lawrence F Locke( Book )

1 edition published in 1993 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This guide to writing research proposals for theses, dissertations, and grants contains practical suggestions for the would-be writer and several exemplars that show how effective proposal writing can be done. The guide is divided into two parts: Part 1, "Writing the Proposal" and Part 2, "Specimen Proposals." Part 1, the core of the guide, presents information applicable to all research proposals and discusses problems peculiar to the use of proposals in graduate education and funding agencies. Chapter 1 introduces generic elements found in nearly all proposals. Chapter 2 discusses ethical issues confronted in the research process. Chapter 3 addresses the needs of graduate students preparing their first research proposal. Chapters 4 considers the content of the proposal including the literature review and anticipating the analysis. Chapter 5 presents the qualitative paradigm for research. Chapter 6 contains information on the style and form of the proposal. Chapter 7 discusses oral presentation of proposals and research. Chapters 8 and 9 cover submission of proposals to funding agencies. In Part 2, four sample proposals are presented. The first is related to the tasks presented in Chapter 1, and the others are presented with critical evaluations to illuminate their strengths and weaknesses. (Contains 152 references.) (Prw)
