José María Blanco White (1775-1841). España. Nació en Sevilla en 1775. Hijo del vicecónsul inglés Guillermo White. Fue canónico magistral en Cádiz y Sevilla y formó parte de la Academia de Letras Humanas (1793-1802). Tras una crisis espiritual marchó a Madrid, en donde trabajó en la Comisión de Literatos del Instituto Pestalozziano y luchó contra los franceses durante la ocupación. Su ideología liberal le llevó a discrepar con la Junta Central; marchándose de España rumbo a Inglaterra en 1810, allí reinició sus estudios de inglés, su segunda lengua, y de griego. Fue profesor de la Universidad de Oxford y escribió crítica literaria en inglés y español publicada en Variedades o El Mensajero de Londres (1823-1825) publicación financiada por Rudolph Ackermann. Murió en 1841 en Liverpool, Inglaterra

He left Spain for England in 1810, where he resumed his studies of English, his second language, and Greek. He was a professor at the University of Oxford and wrote literary criticisms in English and Spanish that were published in <I>Variedades o El Mensajero de Londres</I>.</div>
