Written in a question and answer format, the document pertains mostly to the conversion of Indians from what is called their pagan beliefs to Christian faith. The manuscript discusses numbers of those who need to be converted and those who already have been. There is also information about the white people who lived and interacted with the Indians. Social life of the Indians is described, including crime information, treatment of women, dress, marriage, alcohol use, and religion. Individuals who appear to have contributed to the report are Reverend Samuel Kirkland and John Sergeant, Jr.. The document is signed by Jeremy Belknap and Jedidiah Morse. Published in the Collections of the Massachusetts Historical Society, 1798, first series vol. 5, p. 12-32, and in Indian notes and monographs, miscellaneous series no. 54, 1955.
