Connecting Sub-Saharan Africa : a World Bank Group strategy for information and communication technology sector development by Pierre Guislain( Book )

7 editions published in 2005 in English and held by 159 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Connecting Sub-Saharan Africa outlines a strategy for information and communication technologies (ICT) development in Sub-Saharan Africa that will further the reform agenda to facilitate deployment of ICT infrastructure, and encourage the development community to support African governments in this regard. The strategy builds on the earlier reform agenda in the sector by leveraging the achievements to date of Sub-Saharan African countries to advance the essential goal of increasing the continent's connectivity. It provides strategies for developing and enhancing the capacity of Africa's ICT institutions-including regulators, ministries, and regional bodies-to lead the development of an interconnected region and implement sustainable regional strategies for integration and knowledge sharing. Of particular concern is the ability to bring rural areas into the national, regional, and global economies, thus creating new opportunities for the world's poorest citizens

11 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 97 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"With abundant underdeveloped reserves of natural gas, this resource has the potential to play a large role in meeting the world's growing energy demand." Natural gas competes with other resources for use in power generation. In addition, its other uses have increased dramatically. Since it offers substantial environmental advantages over other hydrocarbon fuels, governments and investors are considering natural gas. This volume examines a range of issues relating to gas sector reform and gas market development. It also examines the reform experience in an array of countries. The last section reviews some of the commercial issues faced in expanding the role of gas, such as, the challenges of developing and financing cross-border gas pipeline trade and the difficulties of attracting investors to projects involving countries with high credit and currency risks
