The founders were building a university out of little more than ambitious hopes and dreams. University Hall was the University of Nebraska's first building. The Sacred Pole was returned to them in July 1989 and in September 1990, the remaining 280 items in the Peabody Museum's Omaha collection were returned to the Omaha tribe.
