"TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 525: Surface Transportation Security and TRB's Transit Cooperative Research Program (TCRP) Report 86: Public Transportation Security series publications have jointly published Making Transportation in Tunnels Safe and Secure. The report is Volume 12 in each series. The report is designed to provide transportation tunnel owners and operators with guidelines for protecting their tunnels by minimizing the damage potential from extreme events such that, if damaged, they may be returned to full functionality in relatively short periods. The report examines safety and security guidelines for owners and operators of transportation tunnels to use in identifying principal vulnerabilities of tunnels to various hazards and threats. The report also explores potential physical countermeasures; potential operational countermeasures; and deployable, integrated systems for emergency-related command, control, communications, and information. The TCRP Report 86: Public Transportation Security series assembles relevant information into single, concise volumes, each pertaining to a specific security problem and closely related issues. These volumes focus on the concerns that transit agencies are addressing when developing programs in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and the anthrax attacks that followed. Future volumes of the report will be issued as they are completed"--Publisher's description

Technical manual for design and construction of road tunnels--civil elements by C. Jeremy Hung( )

2 editions published between 2009 and 2010 in English and held by 183 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The increased use of underground space for transportation systems and the increasing complexity and constraints of constructing and maintaining above ground transportation infrastructure have prompted the need to develop this technical manual. This FHWA manual is intended to be a single-source technical manual providing guidelines for planning, design, construction and rehabilitation of road tunnels, and encompasses various types of road tunnels including mined, bored, cut-and-cover, immersed, and jacked box tunnels. The scope of the manual is primarily limited to the civil elements of road tunnels"--Technical report documentation page

Guidelines for development of public transportation facilities and equipment management systems by Parsons Brinkerhoff Quade & Douglas( Book )

2 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 150 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report documents and presents the research approach used in the development of the guidelines for the Public Transportation Facilities and Equipment Management System (PTMS). The research agency conducted a representative survey of stakeholders who are involved in developing a PTMS in various states, and combined this information with the latest advances in facilities management systems to develop a set of guidelines appropriate to states and transit agencies of all modes and scales. A step by step procedure for developing a PTMS is outlined in the guidelines, along with additional industry sources for measures and standards, and examples of analytical methods for evaluating the data collected

Estimating the benefits and costs of public transit projects : a guidebook for practitioners by Ltd ECO Northwest( Book )

2 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 142 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report provides a valuable resource for people who have the difficult and often cumbersome responsibility of analyzing the benefits and costs of public transportation services and presenting the results of these analyses to decisionmakers, the media, and the public. Section I explains how to use the guidebook and provides an overview of benefit-cost evaluation concepts and their application to transit projects. Section II addresses the basic benefits and costs of transit projects, including impacts on travel, secondary impacts on the environment and safety, and the direct costs and revenues of transit projects. Section III discusses other benefits and costs of transit projects, including impacts on land use and land development, economic impacts, and the distribution of impacts. Section IV provides an example with sample analyses. Section V consists of four appendices that provide a bibliography, integrated models for conducting comprehensive benefit-cost analysis, sample calculations, and conversion factors for calculating constant dollars
