Missile aerodynamics = L'Aérodynamique des missiles by North Atlantic Treaty Organization( Book )

5 editions published between 1979 and 1994 in English and held by 96 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Fluid Dynamics Panel of AGARD organised this Symposium on Missile Aerodynamics to (i) review current progress and achievements, (ii) highlight outstanding problems and (iii) establish pointers for planning future research programmes. The Symposium addressed many aspects of the aerodyanmic design and performance of missiles for the subsonic through to the hypdrsonic flight regimes and reviews were included covering the stability and control of tactical missiles and the progress made in the field of store carriage and release. 31 papers were presented in seven sessions with contributionss from Canada, France, Germany, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States. Topics considered in the Symposium are: computational methods and validation, empirical tools and experimental techniques, flow separation and interference effects, unconventional shapes and projectiles, porpulsion and base flows, aerothermodynamics and hypersonices. The volume includes all the unclassified papers presented at the Sympsium together with a transcript of the discussion which took place at the conclusion of the meeting

5 editions published between 1990 and 1995 in English and held by 81 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The course first summarizes the various configurations of different rotary-wing aircraft and the simple methods to calculate their performance. Methods for designing efficient rotors are explained and justified. In particular the optimization codes for airfoil and blade determination are described. The rotor design can be improved by using advanced three dimensional aerodynamic codes, whose actual possibilities are presented. Detailed papers concern the consequences of specific aerodynamic phenomena such as rotor wake on blade airloads and on rotor noise prediction. The state of the art of fuselage aerodynamics and on the problems related to rotor wake and fuselage interactions is given. An important part of the course is also devoted to the experimental methods used for wind-tunnel and flight tests, that are at our disposal in order to understand correctly the physical phenomena involved, and to acquire reliable data necessary for code validation. -- The material assembled in this book was prepared under the combined sponsorship of the Fluid Dynamics Panel, the von Kármán Institute and the Consultant and Exchange Program of AGARD and presented as an AGARD Special Course at the von Kármán Institute, Rhode-Saint Genèse, Belgium on 2nd-5th April 1990 and as a Short Course at Ankara, Turkey on 9th-11th April 1990 and at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, United States 14th-17th May 1990
Thermo-molecular pressure effects in tubes and at orifices by Max Kinslow( Book )

2 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An investigation of the errors arising from thermal nonequilibrium in systems measuring gas pressures is presented. The errors are attributed to a phenomenon referred to as thermo-molecular pressure. This effect is investigated both theoretically and experimentally at sensing orifices and in tubes. A thorough review of the literature is given and a theory is developed for the error introduced in the limiting case of a very small sensing orifice with heat flux to the orifice surface. The theory takes into account the effect of arbitrary thermal accommodation coefficient at the orifice surface. Experimental data are presented separately for thermo-molecular pressures in tubes and at orifices. In addition, results of heat-transfer measurements in the transitional flow regime between flat plates are presented as a basis for correlating the orifice data. Finally, methods are given, with examples, for the correction of thermo-molecular effects both at orifices and in circular tubes. (Author)

Digital techniques in turbulence research by Carl H Gibson( Book )

3 editions published in 1973 in English and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Rapid advances in electronic information processing capabilities are providing powerful tools for turbulence research. Massive quantities of experimental information are necessary to characterize most turbulent flows, given the primitive nature of theoretical understanding in the field. Analytical treatments are equally dependent on powerful, high speed computers to cope with the most trucated form of the full turbulence problem. Use of digital techniques has great potential for progress in turbulence research but also introduces a new set of difficulties which must be overcome for this potential to be realized

Facilities and techniques for aerodynamic testing at transonic speeds and high Reynolds number; papers by North Atlantic Treaty Organization( Book )

6 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 53 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In September 1968, the FDP of AGARD held a specialists' meeting in Paris on transonic aerodynamics, in recognition of the fact that the absence of adequate theoretical methods and wind-tunnels of high enough Reynolds number had already led to costly shortcomings in the transonic performance of certain combat and transport aircraft. Since projected aerospace systems, military, civil and space-oriented, would involve flight at Reynolds number of up to 100 million, the FDP undertook an examination of the requirements of NATO nations for wind tunnel facilities for testing large models at high Reynolds numbers
