The road to Berlin : continuing the history of Stalin's war with Germany by John Erickson( Book )

56 editions published between 1975 and 2015 in English and held by 1,470 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book tells the story of the Red Army's epic struggle to drive the Germans out of Russia and back to Berlin. Using Soviet, German, and Eastern European primary sources, John Erickson describes fighting and hardship on an almost unimaginable scale. The narrative covers battles on all the fronts. The inside information on the Soviet system of war reveals how, under maximum stress, the Russian army achieved near-impossible feats in the field and the factories. All the diplomatic moves and counter-moves, including the all-important conferences at Tehran and Yalta, also come alive
The Soviet high command; a military-political history, 1918-1941 by John Erickson( Book )

46 editions published between 1961 and 2001 in English and held by 1,014 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The "Tukhachevskii Affair" is investigated together with Stalin's murderous military purge and its consequences for the Red Army. Poor Soviet performance in the "Winter War" with Finland prompted hasty reforms, but neither reorganization nor rearmament was complete before the German invasion in June 1941. First suffering catastrophic loss inflicted by the Wehrmacht, the Red Army had recovered sufficiently by December 1941 to defend Moscow and to counter-attack."--Jacket

"Pennington chronicles the creation, organization, and leadership of these regiments, as well as the experiences of the pilots, navigators, bomb loaders, mechanics, and others who made up their ranks, all within the context of the Soviet air war on the Eastern Front."--Jacket
Islam and postcolonial narrative by John Erickson( Book )

17 editions published between 1998 and 2009 in English and held by 430 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In Islam and Postcolonial Narrative, John Erickson examines four major authors from the 'third world' - Assia Djebar, Adelkebir Khatibi, Tahar ben Jelloun and Salman Rushdie - all of whom have engaged in a critique of the relationship between Islam and the West. Erickson analyses the narrative strategies they deploy to explore the encounter between Western and Islamic values and reveals their use of the cultural resources of Islam, as well as their intertextual exchanges with other third-world writers. Erickson argues against any homogenising mode of writing labelled 'postcolonial' and any view of Islamic and Western discourses as monolithic or totalising. He reveals the way these writers valorise expansiveness, polyvalence and indeterminacy as part of an attempt to represent the views of individuals and groups that live on the cultural and political margins of society
