Gustave Moreau, the watercolors by
Pierre-Louis Mathieu(
Book
)
4 editions published between 1984 and 1985 in English and held by 408 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Fifty-four plates of excellent quality, 40 in color and 8 of these enlarged a bit beyond the original, reproduce a sampling of the 400 or so little-known watercolors by the Symbolist Moreau (1826-98). An expert on the artist, Mathieu here writes for the casual reader, covering mostly generalities in a two-chapter essay and so-so commentaries on the plates. Themes include Moreau's relation to Romanticism, Symbolism, poetry, and the erotic. Mathieu, who inscrutably confuses any implied chronology with several early dated works placed at the end of the book, finally agrees that Moreau developed his own nonfigurative style prior to Kandinsky's first abstract watercolor. One wishes this book were better organized and less repetitious, and that it spoke in more detail of the works themselves. For large collections. Mary Hamel-Schwulst, Art Dept., Goucher College, Md. Geneviève Lacambre(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 304 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Trained in Renaissance art traditions, Moreau helped to open the way for modern art, and was especially fascinating to the later Surrealists, themselves drunk on dreams. Genevieve Lacambre takes us into the heart of this man's unique creativity, exploring his life and artistic sources. More than 120 paintings, drawings, and watercolors and a wealth of documents, letters, and photographs illustrate the life and work of this singular artist."--Jacket

3D City Models and urban information: Current issues and perspectivesEuropean COST Action TU0801R. Billen, A.-F. Cutting-Decelle, O. Marina, J.-P. de Almeida, Caglioni M., G. Falquet, T. Leduc, C. Métral, G. Moreau, J. Perret, G. Rabin, R. San Jose, I. Yatskiv and S. ZlatanovaConsidering sustainable development of cities implies investigating cities in a holistic way taking into account many interrelations between various urban or environmental issues. 3D city models are increasingly used in different cities and countries for an intended wide range of applications beyond mere visualization. Could these 3D City models be used to integrate urban and environmental knowledge? How could they be improved to fulfill such role? We believe that enriching the semantics of current 3D city models, would extend their functionality and usability; therefore, they could serve as integration platforms of the knowledge related to urban and environmental issues allowing a huge and significant improvement of city sustainable management and development. But which elements need to be added to 3D city models? What are the most efficient ways to realize such improvement / enrichment? How to evaluate the usability of these improved 3D city models?These were the questions tackled by the COST Action TU0801 "Semantic enrichment of 3D city models for sustainable urban development". This book gathers various materials developed all along the four year of the Action and the significant breakthroughs

Gustave Moreau(

12 editions published in 1999 in English and French and held by 63 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Gustave Moreau (1826-1898) was one of the most influential and idiosyncratic painters of the nineteenth century. He developed a reputation as an artistic hermit, committed to a highly personal vision of painting that combined myth, mysticism, history, and a fascination with the bizarre and exotic. Yet Moreau was also a prominent public figure in the Paris art world, winning praise for exhibits at the Salon, becoming a respected teacher at the Ecole des beaux-arts, and exerting a powerful influence on Henri Matisse, Georges Rouault, and the schools of Symbolism and Surrealism. This book, published to coincide with a spectacular international exhibition that marks the centenary of Moreau's death, presents a wide range of the artist's most famous and beautiful works along with penetrating essays and catalogue entries that explain his unique achievements in all their intellectual complexity and visual richness."--BOOK JACKET
