Youth; its education, regimen, and hygiene by G. Stanley Hall( Book )

68 editions published between 1904 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 937 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"I have often been asked to select and epitomize the practical and especially the pedagogical conclusions of my large volumes on Adolescence, published in 1904, in such form that they may be available at a minimum cost to parents, teachers, reading circles, normal schools, and college classes, by whom even the larger volumes have been often used. This, with the cooperation of the publishers and with the valuable aid of Superintendent C.N. Kendall of Indianapolis, I have tried to do, following in the main the original text, with only such minor changes and additions as were necessary to bring the topics up to date, and adding a new chapter on moral and religious education. For the scientific justification of my educational conclusions I must, of course, refer to the larger volumes. The last chapter is not in "Adolescence," but is revised from a paper printed elsewhere"--Preface. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
Senescence, the last half of life by G. Stanley Hall( Book )

34 editions published between 1922 and 2015 in English and Undetermined and held by 699 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this book the author has tried to present the subjects of Old Age and Death from as many viewpoints as possible in order to show how the ignorant and the learned, the child, the adult, and the old, savage and civilized man, pagans and Christians, the ancient and the modern world, the representatives of various sciences, and different individuals have viewed these problems. He has also tried to develop an idea of death and old age that is true to the facts of life and mind than those now current. Some of the overall topics discussed in this book include: the history of old age, literature by and on the aged, statistics of old age and its care, medical views and treatment, and so forth. It is hoped that the data garnered and the views propounded in this text may help to a better and more correct understanding of the nature and functions of old age"--Foreword. Founders of modern psychology by G. Stanley Hall( Book )

41 editions published between 1912 and 2012 in English and German and held by 617 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book is an amplification of six lectures on the foundation of psychology given early in 1912 at Columbia University to an audience composed of students and a wider public. They were not addressed to experts and were only designed to give those who heard them some general idea of the personality, standpoint, and achievements of each of the men described. The chapters are therefore for the most part light and untechnical. They can make no claim to completeness or originality"--Introd. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2005 APA, all rights reserved)

The complete introductory lectures on psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud( Book )

51 editions published between 1920 and 2016 in English and German and held by 611 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

There exists, of course, few more famous figures in the field of psychology than Sigmund Freud. As the founding father of psychoanalysis, or the clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst, his impact on the field of psychology cannot be understated. Based on a series of lectures given at the University of Vienna in 1915, "Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis" builds upon Freud's earlier work "Five Lectures on Psycho-Analysis" to provide a comprehensive overview of the pioneer's work in the field of psychoanalysis. G. Stanley Hall describes in his preface that "these twenty-eight lectures to laymen are elementary and almost conversational. Freud sets forth with a frankness almost startling the difficulties and limitations of psychoanalysis, and also describes its main methods and results as only a master and originator of a new school of thought can do. These discourses are at the same time simple and almost confidential, and they trace and sum up the results of thirty years of devoted and painstaking research." A must read for those interested in the field of psychology and Freud's contribution to it -- Provided by the publisher

"No one can possibly realize better than the author of these vacation skits how crude and amateurish they are if judged from the standpoint of literature. If they have any merit, or their publication any excuse, it will be as illustrations of psychological principles. This book presents a series of stories and short essays written by Hall, some autobiographical, some fictional. They all, however, contain psychological relevance"--Preface.
