The story of the wild horse in America from the proud time when it escaped from the Conquistadors to its hunted and persecuted life today. For two centuries the wild horse bands shared the freedom of the plains with the buffalo and the Indian, until the West was opened to white settlement. From their ranks came the tough and intelligent Western cow pony the Indians, and later explorers and cowboys learned to rely on {when they could catch them}. Pure spanish mustangs are still found among the few wild bands which remain on barren mountain pastures and remote desert ranges. But in ten years even these will be gone, for they are unprotected by any law, and are mercilessly and most cruelly hunted by agents for canning factories

In conversational essays accompanied by stunning full-color photographs, she introduces readers to more than thirty wildflowers found in backyards, vacant lots, and swamps across the country, from the common dandelion to the rare and delicate nodding ladies' tresses. She also tells the story behind the name of each flower and describes the relationship each has with its specific winged pollinator--bird or insect. Informative and beautiful to look at, Wildflowers Around the Year will inspire young readers to start their own search for these often hidden treasures. Bibliography

5 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 455 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Having earned John F. Kennedy's trust with his 1960 campaign-trail film Primary, cinéma vérité documentarian Robert Drew expressed his desire to document a president in crisis. When African American college students Vivian Malone and James Hood prepared to enroll at the all-white University of Alabama in June 1963, governor George Wallace defied a federal court order and vowed to prevent the students' enrollment. Kennedy granted unprecedented access to Drew and his unobtrusive four-team crew, who used handheld cameras to cover both sides of the conflict: Wallace self-righteously clings to segregation, while a flurry of phone calls between the president, attorney general Robert F. Kennedy, and deputy attorney general Nicholas Katzenback reveal a tightly coordinated plan to dismiss Wallace (in Robert Kennedy's words) as "a second-rate figure." Special feature: Drew's short film Faces of November provides an examination of the meaning of John F. Kennedy's death to those at his funeral
