This stunningly illustrated book is a 1904 edition of Wilde's play "Salomé," and has been translated from the French of Oscar Wilde. The iconic illustrations are by Wilde's fellow Victorian and aesthete, Aubrey Beardsley. Although the two collaborated on this book, and several other related projects, they were, contrary to popular belief, not close friends

This performance presents the great Leonie Rysanek in one of her most memorable roles--the teenage Judean princess Salome. Obsessed with the prophet Jochanaan, the Biblical John the Baptist (Norman Bailey), she skillfully manipulates her lecherous stepfather Herod (Ragnar Ulfung) until he has no choice but to have the holy man killed for spurning the princess's advances. The legendary Astrid Varnay is Salome's mother, Herodias. Highlights of the score include the Dance of the Seven Veils and Salome's final monologue, one of the supreme dramatic achievements in all of opera
The true history of Shakespeare's sonnets by Alfred Bruce Douglas( Book )

14 editions published between 1933 and 1979 in English and held by 360 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Largely a discussion of Butler's "Shakespeare's sonnets reconsidered, and in part rearranged"; the present author adopts with few exceptions Butler's arrangement and also identifies the W.H. of the sonnets with William Hughes or Hewes
Oscar Wilde and myself by Alfred Bruce Douglas( Book )

32 editions published between 1914 and 2013 in 4 languages and held by 341 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Alfred Douglas, known to many as "Bosie" is remembered mostly for his tumultuous and highly publicized love affair with Oscar Wilde. He is also known for his work as a minor English poet. Born October 22, 1870, Lord Douglas was the third son of John Sholto Douglas, ninth Marquess of Queensberry, and Sibyl, née Montgomery. Douglas met Oscar Wilde through a mutual friend in early summer, 1891, and their relationship is legendary. Douglas wrote this biography in response to Wilde's publication of "De Profundis," a post trial book in which he criticizes his former lover. Though their relationship was strained by the trial, and they ended their affair, the two remained friends. This volume is a fascinating read

Salome : a tragedy in one act by Oscar Wilde( Book )

1 edition published in 1938 in English and held by 119 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Unique among his works, Oscar Wilde's play Salomé (1893) was written originally in French. Joseph Donohue's new translation of the horrific New Testament story has recast Wilde's shockingly radical drama in the natural idiomatic language of our own day. Presenting a colloquial and spare American English version of Wilde's consciously stylized French, Donohue's approach gives full value to the Irish author's dark ruminations on evil and perversity in a world on the brink of a new, unsettling Christian dispensation"--Book description, University of Virginia Press website
