This book honors the 60th anniversary of Bob Marley's birth with a testament to the legacy of a legend.--[book jacket]
44 days : Iran and the remaking of the world by David Burnett( Book )

2 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 164 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"It begins like a Graham Greene novel, Christmas 1978, with a correspondent aboard a plane landing in an ominously empty city ripped by sudden violence. On one side, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the West-leading but authoritarian and unpopular ruler of Iran; on the other, a coalition of angry opposition interests from secular leftists to ultra-conservative mullahs, all haunted by SAVAK, the feared and hated secret police. The shah's repressive policies are common knowledge, but his regime's instability and the swiftness of his eclipse will take the world by surprise, sending reporters and news crews scattering for safety." "Legendary photojournalist David Burnett was there for it all - and this is his unique eyewitness account of those six pivotal weeks. 44 headlong days that stunned the world and shaped the modern Middle East in a seismic shift whose aftershocks are still being felt. At a time when Westerners fled, Burnett remained to record the breathtaking sudden end of the shah's rule and the chaotic political scramble that ended in the triumph of the ayatollahs and the birth of the Islamic republic. As the shah's arrogant visage gave way to the indelible image of an ascetic old cleric named Khomeini, Burnett reported in real time from inside Iran." "Burnett delivers new perspectives: Iranian rioters amid blazing cars: politicians and power brokers in Savile Row suits: the vanishing tail of the airliner carrying the shah to exile and death: and the sea of Shiite worshipers welcoming the ayatollah's triumphant return."--Jacket

The unknown Eastern Front : the Wehrmacht and Hitler's foreign soldiers by Rolf-Dieter Müller( Book )

8 editions published between 2012 and 2014 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

When Hitler launched Operation Barbarossa with his attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941, the Wehrmacht deployed 600,000 troops to the Eastern Front. Their numbers were later swelled by a range of foreign volunteers so that, at the height of World War II, astonishingly one in three men fighting for the Germans in the East was not a native German. Hitler's declaration of the 'struggle against Bolshevism' reverberated throughout all of Europe - among convinced fascists as well as among non-Russian eastern Europeans seeking to regain their independence from the USSR. Many of these volunteers subsequently became involved in the atrocities of the Wehrmacht and the SS. Vilified by Hitler for their supposed failures, condemned and forgotten by their homelands for treason and collaboration, their involvement in the war has been largely ignored or swept aside by historians. Rolf-Dieter Muller here offers a fascinating new perspective on a little-known aspect of World War II
