The OCLC Research WorldCat Identities project is ending. The work provided valuable insight into how to mine bibliographic data for insight into the People and Organizations that create and serve as subjects library materials. The findings demonstrated the power of data mining over the world’s largest set of bibliographic metadata and highlighted the value of collaborative collective cataloging. The WorldCat Identities data has positively impacted OCLC’s work to build the WorldCat Entities application and the 150 million Person and Work descriptions accessible through it. This work will continue to build our entity ecosystem to support the future knowledge work of librarians.

The WorldCat Identities web application will be retired and shut down in the coming months and the data is no longer being updated. The most recent version of the data is from July of 2022. As OCLC continues to build out the WorldCat Entities ecosystem, please use it as a source for persistent Person identifiers. https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity

Selected poems of Gabriela Mistral by Gabriela Mistral( Book )

23 editions published between 1957 and 2003 in English and held by 900 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The first Nobel Prize in literature to be awarded to a Latin American writer went to the Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral. Famous and beloved during her lifetime all over Latin America and in Europe, Mistral has never been known in North America as she deserves to be. The reputation of her more flamboyant and accessible friend and countryman Pablo Neruda has overshadowed hers, and she has been officially sentimentalized into a 'poetess' of children and motherhood. Translations, and even selections of her work in Spanish, have tended to underplay the darkness, the strangeness, and the raging intensity of her poems of grief and pain, the yearning power of her evocations of the Chilean landscape, the stark music of her Round Dances, the visionary splendor of her Hymns of America. During her lifetime Mistral published four books: Desolation, Tenderness, Clearcut, and Winepress. These are included in the 'Complete' Nobel edition published in Madrid; the Poem of Chile, her last book, was printed years after her death. Le Guin includes poems from all five books in this volume, with particular emphasis on the later work. The intelligence and passion of Le Guin's selection and translation will finally allow people in the North to hear the originality, power, purity, and intransigence of this great American voice"--Publisher

"The child is a savor with more varied and savvy senses than the adult, in whom education has slaughtered both his imagination and the sensitivity of his senses." "The lullaby is made for the mother and it is made tender, loving and sharp in order that she may relish, savor in verse and verse her own love, her own tenderness. It is therefore a song that , like a broken fruit, it gives the child half, that is, the pure melody, or back and forth and gives the mother, entirely, the lyrics "GABRIELA MISTRAL
Poetas hispanoamericanas contemporáneas : poéticas y metapoéticas (siglos XX-XXI) by Milena Rodríguez( )

2 editions published in 2021 in Spanish and held by 333 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Beautiful bilingual edition of the prose poems that exemplify 'Mistral's sense of sisterhood with all women,' first published in Desolación in 1922 and revised by Mistral in the 1950 edition upon which these translations are based. Twelve powerful paintings by a leading Chilean artist and superb English renditions capture the multilayered imagery, cadences, and 'sense of otherness.' Eloquent introductory essay and translator's note. Highly recommended"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58
