Crash cushions of waste materials by E. L Marquis( Book )

4 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 116 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report documents and presents the results of a study aimed at developing practical designs for crash cushions (impact attenuators) employing waste materials. Three scrap-tire systems and the use of a fiberized aluminum product were investigated. Full-scale crash tests, supported variously by static and pendulum testing and computer simulation, produced designs for two scrap-tire systems that can meet Federal Highway Administration performance criteria, and which should serve adequately under certain limiting conditions. One scrap-tire system, and the fiberized aluminum product, were not subjected to full-scale tests, and practical designs are not provided

Testing of new bridge rail and transition designs by Eugene Buth( Book )

2 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The objectives of this study were to develop safer bridge rail and transition designs and to improve design guidelines. Ten bridge railings and two transitions were designed, tested, and evaluated in accordance with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) requirements. The railings were designed using ultimate strength procedures and collision forces from earlier research. Design procedures, railing designs, and test results are presented. All designs demonstrated acceptable collision performance

Longitudinal barriers for buses and trucks : state of the art by T. J Hirsch( Book )

2 editions published between 1985 and 1986 in English and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An extensive effort has been made to develop longitudinal barriers capable of restraining and redirecting buses and large trucks. The results of 34 crash tests conducted using cars and mostly buses and trucks on 16 different longitudinal barriers were obtained from the references. Results of these crash tests are summarized. Theory and crash test results are presented to demonstrate the magnitude of the impact forces these longitudinal barriers must resist and how high they must be to prevent vehicle rollover
