In October, 1754, Robert Adam left Edinburgh to undertake a journey that would take him first to Italy and then to Spalato, in Dalmatia. The new edition of this book, which hasn't been printed since 1764, includes the transcription of that journey, enlarging it by including a full iconography of the representations at the Diocletian Palace from Adam to contemporaries, an introduction by Howard Burns and a text by the editor Marco Navarra, who recognises in Adam's writings the attention he paid to the project rather than the simple emphasising of a monument
