This is an account of the last stand of Chief Bowles (The Bowl) of the Chickamauga Cherokee Indians of Texas. The Chickamauga Cherokees from Running Water on the Tennessee River relocated first to Missouri, then Arkansas, and finally to Texas. In July 1839, after settlements had again begun to encroach on their new home in Texas, Chief Bowles and his tribe decided to make a stand. They were defeated and the surviving Chickamauga Cherkokees were dispersed to reservations
