(Fuente: Fiordo)
On representation by Louis Marin( Book )

35 editions published between 1994 and 2014 in 5 languages and held by 588 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Food for thought by Louis Marin( Book )

25 editions published between 1986 and 1999 in 3 languages and held by 587 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this provocative volume, Louis Marin treats a subject to which some of the most exciting literary criticism has been devoted: the body as represented in text and image. From fairy tales to biblical narrative, from the divine body in the eucharist to the body of Louis XIV as described in his physicians' journals, Marin focuses on the peculiar relationship between verbal and oral functions - speaking and eating, boasting and gluttony, lying and cannibalism. Drawing on the methodologies of semiology, philosophy of language, and literary and art criticism, Marin explores works by Rabelais, La Fontaine, Perrault, and the Logic of Port-Royal. Throughout, he is concerned with the conceptualization of desire and pleasure, justice and force, natural violence and political power - and questions their ideological as well as their symbolic bases

Cross-Readings is a wide-ranging series of readings of texts, from classical works (Herodotus, Cicero, Ovid) to early Christian texts (Saint Thomas Aquinas, Saint Augustine), to children's literature (Perrault, Robinson Crusoe, Jules Verne, La Fontaine), to the classics of French literature and thought (Descartes, Corneille, Pascal, Rousseau, Balzac, Stendhal). It enters into dialogue with such diverse works as Sir Thomas More's Utopia, Louis II of Bavaria's personal journals, and theoretical writings by Roman Jakobson, Emile Benveniste, and Ernst Bloch. A challenging text designed for serious students and scholars of theory, Cross-Readings also shines with the rich imagery of literature and the minute detail of everyday life
