Le Verrier, magnificent and detestable astronomer by James Lequeux( )

16 editions published between 2009 and 2014 in French and English and held by 1,519 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Le Verrier was a superb scientist. His discovery of Neptune in 1846 made him the most famous astronomer of his time. He produced a complete theory of the motions of the planets which served as a basis for planetary ephemeris for a full century. Doing this, he discovered an anomaly in the motion of Mercury which later became the first proof of General Relativity. He also founded European meteorology. However his arrogance and bad temper created many enemies, and he was even fired from his position of Director of the Paris Observatory

12 editions published between 2007 and 2014 in French and held by 1,140 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This work is a biography of François Arago, a leading figure in French science in the first half of the 19th century. François Arago greatly advanced scientific knowledge in the fields of physics, astronomy and geodesy, in particular through his work with Fresnel and Ampère

6 editions published in 2005 in French and held by 1,128 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

3 editions published in 2010 in French and held by 1,099 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Le milieu interstellaire by James Lequeux( )

6 editions published in 2002 in French and held by 1,084 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book expounds a modern vision of magnetism and superconductivity that deals with microscopic and phenomenological aspects. Basic notions are illustrated with research projects. To convey the quality of the formalism that is used, the author purposefully resorts to examples or arguments based on intuition
The interstellar medium by James Lequeux( )

27 editions published between 2004 and 2010 in English and held by 598 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Describing interstellar matter in our galaxy in all of its various forms, this book also considers the physical and chemical processes that are occurring within this matter. Emphasizing methods over results, The Interstellar Medium is written for graduate students, for young astronomers, and also for any researchers who have developed an interest in the interstellar medium."--Jacket

New aspects of Magellanic cloud research : proceedings of the Second European Meeting on the Magellanic Clouds by B Baschek( )

16 editions published between 1993 and 2005 in English and held by 385 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The proceedings of the Second European Meeting on "New Aspects of MagellanicCloud Research" review the most recent progress in the study of the LMC and SMC. The activities within the ground-based ESO key programme "Coordinated Investigations of Selected Regions in the Magellanic Clouds", as well as new exciting observations from space missions (ROSAT, IUE, ISO, IRAS) result in a more profound insightinto the structure, kinematics, populations (stars, clusters, interstellar medium), and the chemical composition and evolution of the Magellanic Cloud system. The book addresses researchers and graduate students in astrophysics
Birth, evolution and death of stars by James Lequeux( Book )

9 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in French and English and held by 342 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book is a comprehensive short textbook about stars, their formation, their evolution and their death. It includes a thorough study of single stars, of interactive binary stars, of the formation of elements in stars and of the evolution of galaxies. The most interesting observations are described, then illustrated with beautiful and sometimes spectacular images. The theory is explained in simple terms, but it includes some mathematical or physical developments when they are considered necessary for a good understanding of the phenomena."--Provided by publisher

Francois Arago : a 19th century French humanist and pioneer in astrophysics by James Lequeux( )

11 editions published between 2015 and 2016 in English and held by 282 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Provides the background and biography on François Arago, a dominant figure of French physics and astronomy in the first half of the 19th century, and the one whom many consider to be the first astrophysicist"--Publisher description

La révolution des exoplanètes by James Lequeux( Book )

4 editions published in 2017 in French and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
