Western Anatolia before Troy : proto-urbanisation in the 4th millennium BC? : proceedings of the International Symposium held at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Vienna, Austria, 21-24 November, 2012 by Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien( )

5 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 542 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"OREA 1 presents the scientific results of the international symposium Western Anatolia before Troy--Proto-Urbanisation in the 4th Millennium BC? The sparse archaeological data published for the 5th and 4th millennia BC and the archaeological picture of western Anatolia, fundamentally changed in the last decades, needed to bring together specialists of western Turkey and the neighbouring regions to discuss new data in the light of socio-cultural processes in the period before Troy. Furthermore, following the results of the ERC research group (ERC project Prehistoric Anatolia), it appeared high time to focus on this period as it had been frequently neglected in the recent dynamic prehistoric research in western Turkey. The intermediate millennia between the archaeological focus on the Neolithic (and early Chalcolithic) of the 7th and 6th millennia BC with ground-breaking results and publications on the one hand and traditional research on the Early Bronze Age in the 3rd millennium BC with new input from important key sites on the other hand remained more or less neglected. The symposium aimed to shed light on these developments and focus in particular on the formation of centres of regional and supra-regional importance that emerged in western Anatolia and the broader geographical context of the Balkans, the Marmara Sea, the Greek mainland and Crete"--
Arcimboldo : 1526-1593 by Musée national du Luxembourg (France)( Book )

10 editions published in 2007 in 3 languages and held by 524 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Famous all over the world for his portraits (illustrated composites of plants, fruit, and animals combined to create the illusion of a human form) Arcimboldo still remains, paradoxically, a painter shrouded in mystery. This important monograph reveals the eclecticism of one of the most fertile and lively minds of the Mannerist period, placing him in the cultural context in which he lived and worked. Admired during his life, Arcimboldo fell into oblivion after his death in 1593. His original, eccentric works have been little understood, but were rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century by the Surrealists, who considered him a precursor of Modern art. His work has enjoyed a particular revival of interest again over the last twenty years. In addition to the artist's anamorphic portraits, this volume includes an important selection of Arcimboldo's paintings (many previously unpublished), tapestries, drawings, and illustrations created throughout his life, from his training in Lombardy to his time at the Hapsburg court. This volume will enable readers to discover and appreciate the scope of the great Arcimboldo's extraordinary work. - Publisher

Exhibition: Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria (8.10.2013-6.1.2014)

Joseph Cornell : Wanderlust by Joseph Cornell( Book )

7 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 254 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Joseph Cornell (1903-1972) was one of the twentieth century's leading exponents of collage and assemblage. A connoisseur of an astonishing range of subjects, Cornell was captivated with bygone imagery encompassing astronomical charts and geographical maps, as well as Italian and Spanish Old Master paintings, historical ballet, early cinema, literature, poetry, ornithology and astronomy. Most iconic among his works are the box constructions filled with once-precious fragments that he collected from the thrift shops of his native New York; the results of his collecting "microcosmic cabinets of curiosity" echo the great Enlightenment projects of amassing and categorising material. This book is landmark publication examining this remarkable artist's oeuvre. It brings together some of his most compelling assemblages and box constructions. Exhibition: Royal Academy of Arts, London, UK (4.7.-27.9.2015) / Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria (20.10.2015-10.1.2016)
Late Titian and the sensuality of painting by Titian( Book )

3 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 246 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the mid-sixteenth century, at almost 60 years of age, Titian invented a new way of painting: the paint was applied to the canvas rapidly and freely and overlaid with brushstrokes that were both light and dense: the forms broke up and a great sensuality and profound spirituality became evident. Titian used an extraordinarily prescient technique to create engaging, stirring painting that in some ways seems to relate to the literary work of the poet Torquato Tasso and even take up the imaginary writings of Ludovico Ariosto published in Venice in the 1530s. Such a painting style had never previously been imagined and was so revolutionary that it was to influence many artists of subsequent centuries through to the modern age. Late Titian became the yardstick not only for younger contemporary painters like Tintoretto, Veronese and Bassano, but also great artists of subseqent cewnturies like Rubens, Rembandt, Velazquez, Gericault and Delacroix and on to the Expressionists
