3 editions published in 1977 in English and held by 170 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This booklet focuses on the evaluation of the Caribbean Mathematics Project, a regional curriculum development project for eight island territories. The project was initiated in August 1971 to develop materials for pupils aged 12-15 in newly developing junior secondary schools and those in the upper levels of all-age primary schools. It operated until August 1975 and was followed by a three-month evaluation. How the project developed and operated is described. Teachers were involved in the development of materials, and were trained in the process. Achievements of the project are discussed in relation to new cooperation between territories, new thinking among teachers, new tools for mathematics teaching, new flexibility in the curriculum, new standards of production, new weapons against illiteracy, and new interest in mathematics. Factors mitigating against total success were also considered: inadequate basic training, uncertain mathematical objectives, socio-economic pressures, and examinations. Lessons learned from the experiment are discussed in the final chapter. Appendices list activities, enrollment data, published materials, and statistical results, with the cognitive test included. 4 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 159 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A group study method was selected for Tanzanian educational radio campaigns based on the theory that adults are more motivated to learn when they are actively involved. Groups of approximately 12 adults and a group adviser followed the pattern of reading, listening, discussing, decision making, and action. The instructional materials used consisted of books, adviser's manuals, posters, and flip-over sets. Group training seminars were conducted to give the advisers an ample background. The Tanzanian program proved effective in motivating learning. The use of radio study campaigns constituted an inexpensive, efficient, and popular method of serving the country's commitment to rural education. (Author/DS)

Mostaganem Institute of Agricultural Technology : an educational innovation : study prepared for the International Educational Reporting Service by Noureddine Boukli( Book )

5 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 147 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The document describes in detail the Institute of Agricultural Technology (ITA), established by the Algerian government in 1969 at Mostaganem to train agricultural engineers, and its innovative four year training program. An introduction provides background information and quotes from the governmental guide regarding the Institute. Following chapters include: (1) The ITA--Inception and Organization, outlining training objectives, job priorities, staff, trainee recruitment and characteristics; (2) Outline of Training, examining the four main sections of character development, basic training, specialized training, and training in economics; (3) Training Organization and Teaching Equipment, describing training stages, assessment of knowledge, and teaching materials, audiovisual aids, laboratories, and workshops; (4) Field Training and its Role in the ITA Training System, describing adaptation, common core, third-year, and fourth-year field course categories. Conclusions summarize successful recruitment and teaching methods, problems encountered due to large training quotas, and proposed program changes. The development of the four year training program for agricultural engineers is seen as being closely linked with Algeria's development as a nation. (LH)
