Endocrine system by Thomas Carlyle Jones( Book )

17 editions published between 1983 and 2013 in English and held by 409 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The second edition of this book focuses on the unambiguous identification of lesions in the endocrine system of laboratory animals, a base which is expanded to include new information coming from contemporary techniques, such as invoking mechanisms of action of xenobiotics, identification of cells by their ultrastructure and secretory products, and recognition of effects of toxins on cells and tissues. New methods, applicable to answer a pathologist's questions, are, for example, offered for the study of the hypothalamus and its controlling influence on all endocrine organs. Contemporary concepts of each endocrine organ of laboratory animals and other species are considered and presented in detail, superbly illustrated with gross, histologic, and ultrastructural figures. A basic handbook in toxicologic pathology for the pathologist at the beginning or peak of his or her career, it is also of value to any biologic scientist

Respiratory system by Thomas Carlyle Jones( Book )

20 editions published between 1985 and 1996 in English and German and held by 355 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the second edition of a monograph which provided a concise approach to an understanding of the spontaneous and induced lesions in the respiratory system of laboratory animals, especially the rat, mouse, and hamster. This expanded edition keeps the basic format of the first edition but provides much more information applicable to the study of toxicologic pathology. For example, the effects of inhaled toxicants of the upper respiratory tract are presented in detail in relation to the specific cells affected, based upon their precise morphology and function discerned at the ultrastructural level. This approach is followed through the entire volume, with precise identification of the cells preceding consideration of perturbations caused by toxicants of other etiologic agents. Current understanding of the nature and significance of pathologic lesions is probed throughout the volume. Although toxicologic pathology is emphasized, experimental pathologists and other scientists will find this book especially useful

The International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) was estab lished to stimulate and support scientific research and edu cational programs in nutrition, toxicology, and food safe ty; and to encourage cooperation in these programs among scientists from universities, industry, and government in order to facilitate the resolution of health and safety issues. The officers and trustees of ILSI believe that questions re garding health and safety are best resolved when govern ment and industry rely on scientific investigations, analy ses, and reviews by independent experts. This process is furthered by the examination and discussion of issues on an international basis. ILSI is pleased to sponsor this set of monographs on the pathology of laboratory animals. This project collectively brings together the most comprehensive information on non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions that occur in com monly used laboratory animals. The international compo sition of the authors, editors, and editorial board who have contributed to these monographs strengthens our expecta tions that understanding and cooperation will be strength ened worldwide through this series

Nonhuman primates by Thomas Carlyle Jones( Book )

18 editions published in 1993 in English and German and held by 218 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume is one of a set of concise, well illustrated and authoritative studies of natural and experimental lesions of laboratory animals arranged by organ system. Volumes 11 and 12 the latest in a set of twelve are devotedto pathologic lesions in nonhuman primates. The first volume includes data on diseases which affect two or more anatomic systems. The second is arranged by anatomic systems. Precise differential diagnostic criteria and terminology are given emphasis. Included are useful data on pathogenesis, etiology, biologic behavior, frequency in different species under varying laboratory conditions. The significance of each lesion is considered and comparisons are made with other species including man. References to the world literature have been selected to permit access to the critically important publications of each subject
Nervous system by Thomas Carlyle Jones( Book )

9 editions published between 1988 and 2014 in English and held by 190 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the sixth volume in a set of concise, well-illustrated and authoritative studies on natural and experimental lesions of laboratory animals. The Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals are designed to facilitate communication among those involved in the safety testing of foods, drugs, and chemicals. The complete set will cover all organ systems and is intended for use by pathologists, toxicologists, and others concerned with evaluating toxicity and carcinogenicity studies. This volume on the nervous systems covers in detail the effects of neurotoxins, neoplasms, infections, and inherited diseases and others of unknown etiology
Hemopoietic system by Thomas Carlyle Jones( Book )

12 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 184 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume is one of a set of concise, well-illustrated and authoritative studies of natural and experimental lesions of laboratory animals (rat, mouse and hamster) arranged by organ systems. Carefully identified pathologic features are correlated with biologic, toxicologic and behavioral data. The frequency and significance of specific lesions in different species and strains from different geographic regions and laboratory environments are depicted graphically. The significance of each lesion is considered and comparisons are made with other species including man. The authors are specialists working in laboratories throughout the world, and each contribution is critically reviewed by an international editorial board. As with other volumes in the set, an internationally applicable nomenclature for recording and evaluating pathologic data produced in safety studies is proposed
Genital system by Thomas Carlyle Jones( Book )

7 editions published in 1987 in English and Undetermined and held by 183 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the fifth volume in a set of concise, well-illustrated and authoritative studies of natural and experimental lesions of laboratory animals arranged according to organ systems. The series aims at providing information useful to pathologists, especially those involved in studies on the safety of foods, drugs, chemicals and other substances in the environment. In this volume on the genital system, foremost consideration is given to the microscopic and ultrastructural features of a lesion that are particularly useful to the pathologist for definite diagnosis. Diagnostic terms preferred by the author and editors are used as the subject heading for each pathologic lesion, and the problems arising in differential diagnosis of similar lesions are covered in detail. The biologic significance of each pathologic lesion is considered under such headings as etiology, natural history, pathogenesis, and frequency of occurance under natural or experimental conditions. The text is enhanced by excellent illustrations, useful references and a comprehensive index. 1

10 editions published between 1989 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 176 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume is one of a set of concise, well-illustrated and authoritative studies of natural and experimental lesions of laboratory animals (rat, mouse and hamster) arranged by organ systems. The volume Integument and Mammary Glands includes not only neoplastic but also non-neoplastic lesions as well as the effects of toxins. It proposes a standard, international nomenclature that is particularly important for the documentation and evaluation of pathologic data produced in safety studies. Emphasis is also given to precise differential diagnostic criteria. Useful data on pathogenesis, etiology, biologic behavior, frequency in different strains and under varying laboratory conditions are given. The significance of each lesion is considered and comparisons are made with other species including man. References to the world literature have been selected to permit access to the critically important publications on each subject. This volume, as others in the Monographs on the Pathology of Laboratory Animals series, will contribute to improved world-wide communication among scientists, industries and governments on the safety of foods, drugs and chemicals subjected to tests in animals
