Lady Molly of Scotland Yard by Emmuska Orczy Orczy( )

45 editions published between 1910 and 2020 in English and held by 708 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Yes, we always called her "my lady" from the moment that she was put at the head of our section, and the chief called her "Lady Molly" in our presence. We of the Female Department are dreadfully snubbed by the men, though don't tell me that women have not ten times as much intuition as the blundering, and sterner sex; my firm belief is that we shouldn't have half so many undetected crimes if some of the so-called mysteries were put to the test of feminine investigation

In the shadow of Agatha Christie : classic crime fiction by forgotten female writers : 1850-1917 by Leslie S Klinger( Book )

2 editions published between 2018 and 2019 in English and held by 410 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This new anthology brings the female crime writers who inspired Agatha Christie out of her shadow and back into the spotlight they deserve. The success of writers like Anna Katherine Green in America; L.T. Meade, C.L. Pirkis, the Baroness Orczy, and Elizabeth Corbett in England; and Mary Fortune in Australia opened doors for the women authors who followed them. While Agatha Christie may still reign supreme, the genre would be much poorer without the bold, fearless work of her predecessors

The old man in the corner by Emmuska Orczy Orczy( Book )

34 editions published between 1908 and 2018 in 4 languages and held by 328 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mysteries! There is no such thing as a mystery in connection with any crime, provided intelligence is brought to bear upon its investigation. So says a rather down-at-heel elderly gentleman to young Polly Burton of the Evening Observer, in the corner of the ABC teashop on Norfolk Street one afternoon. Once she has forgiven him for distracting her from her newspaper and luncheon, Miss Burton discovers that her interlocutor is as brilliantly gifted as he is eccentric - able to solve mysteries that have made headlines and baffled the finest minds of the police without once leaving his seat in the teahouse. As the weeks go by, she listens to him unravelling the trickiest of puzzles and solving the most notorious of crimes, but still one final mystery remains: the mystery of the old man in the corner himself. The Old Man in the Corner is a classic collection of mysteries featuring the Teahouse Detective - a contemporary of Sherlock Holmes, with a brilliant mind and waspish temperament to match that of Conan Doyle's creation

The Duc thinks that they are taking the girl to Holland, but the ship steers for Nantes, where the revolutionaries are in firm control, and atrocities like the mass drowning of priests have taken place. The second half of the book takes place in Nantes, as the Scarlet Pimpernel takes on the seemingly impossible task of rescuing Lord Tony's wife from a fate worse than death
