Cinéma mon amour : Kino in der Kunst = Cinéma mon amour : Film in art( Book )

9 editions published in 2017 in 3 languages and held by 125 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Film and art have always been inseparably linked. The works in the exhibition?Cinéma mon amour? show how cinema, film and the film industry are reflected in contemporary art. Artists such as Candice Breitz and Teresa Hubbard / Alexander Birchler examine the backgrounds and mechanisms of film production; others take up the language of particular genres and specific films or, like Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, take a critical look at the film theatre as a space of perception. Even "by-products" of the film industry, such as screen credits or film posters, find their way into artworks. Finally, Hollywood and the star cult are the starting point for the works of Douglas Gordon and Sam Taylor-Johnson. Several of these aspects inform Stan Douglas' most recent video installation titled? The Secret Agent? (2015), in which truly great cinema unfolds on six screens. With countless references from film noir and Hitchcock's thriller aesthetic to send-ups of detective films, the Canadian artist stages a spectacular readaptation of Joseph Conrad's 1907 spy novel? The Secret Agent?. 00Exhibition: Aargauer Kunsthaus, Aarau, Switzerland (22.01.-17.04.2017)

Voici un dessin suisse( Book )

9 editions published in 2010 in 3 languages and held by 103 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

For many decades drawing has occupied a central position within artists' practices in Switzerland. If the medium was connected to a conceptual strain in the 1970s, it was its link with painting and personal expression that made it a subject of many exhibitions in the 1980s. In the 1990s and the 2000s it both revived classic formats and developed through new techniques and spatial possibilities. This publication, realized with the Musée Jenisch in Vevey, an institution dedicated to the study and conservation of works on paper since the 2000s, attempts to map the new contours of this medium in the 21st century, through the presentation of contributions by more than 40 artists and ten writers, all active in Switzerland. Exhibition: Musée Rath, Geneva, 31 March - 15 August 2010

Ceal Floyer : a handbook by Ceal Floyer( Book )

2 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Those who experience the oeuvre of Ceal Floyer (*1968), who has lived for many years in Berlin, for the first time may initially be surprised, irritated, and ultimately delighted. She plays with conventional patterns of perception in a highly sophisticated way, piercing through them with a keen sense of irony and the simplest of means. Her works are productive irritations whose inherent logic prompts an open process of seeing and thinking. With her work Light Switch (1992) she hoodwinks us by showing us the photograph of a light switch at a place in the room where one might be located. Light illusions of deception and disappointment that also turn up in later works such as Overhead Projection (2006). In this case, a light bulb seems to be suspended from the ceiling of the space that in reality is lying on the projection stage of an overhead projector. 00Exhibition: Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany (29.10.15 - 10.10.2016); Aargauer Kunstmuseum, Aarau, Germany (19.01. - 31.04.2016)
Mai-thu Perret by Mai-Thu Perret( Book )

3 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mai-Thu Perret (*1976 in Geneva, where she lives and works) studied at Cambridge University and the Whitney Independent Study Program, New York. The first body of works she developed is entitled "The Crystal Frontier" (1999-): a series that comprises text and objects, which she describes as either the hypothetical production of a group of women living in autarchy in the desert of New Mexico, or the materialization of the principles that shape their everyday life. Investigating our relationships to common objects found in contemporary art, design spaces, and everyday shops, the artist engages with the consequences and changing realities of utopian thinking as it becomes incorporated into capitalism's mainstream. The book includes most of her projects so far, introduced by short captions she has written, as well as newly commissioned essays by Elisabeth Lebovici and Diedrich Diederichsen. In 2010-2011 Mai-Thu Perret had solo exhibitions at UMMA in Ann Arbor, the Aargauer Kunsthaus in Aarau, the Mamco in Geneva, the Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, and the Magasin in Grenoble. Ohne Achtsamkeit beachte ich alles : Robert Walser und die bildende Kunst = Paying no attention I notice everything : Robert Walser and the visual arts by Madeleine Schuppli( Book )

6 editions published in 2014 in German and English and held by 78 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
