Measuring and monitoring immigrant integration in Europe : integration policies and monitoring efforts in 17 European countries( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 87 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Europe is a favoured destination for many migrants. The region's economic prosperity, relatively high level of political stability and democratic principles are appealing to many migrants, whether they be asylum-seekers or regular migrants in search of work or looking to study. In this book we examine views on integration in 17 European countries, and explore how these are translated into national policy and what efforts are being made in the various countries to map out the integration processes of migrants and track them over time. The different chapters in this book present a kaleidoscopic overview of opinions about integration and the efforts to make integration measurable in practice. Europe has spent more than ten years trying to achieve greater uniformity in integration policy across the Member States. However, from this book we learn that we have to accept that harmonisation in the monitoring of immigrant integration in Europe is still some way off

A day with the Dutch : time use in the Netherlands and fifteen other European countries by Mariëlle Cloïn( Book )

3 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 51 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"How do people in the Netherlands use their time, and are there any differences compared with other countries? In this report, time use in the Netherlands and fifteen other European countries is described, compared and placed in an international comparative perspective. The comparison is based on time use surveys which were carried out in accordance with a comparable design in all the countries, including the Netherlands. Since this is the first time that the Netherlands has been part of an international comparative study based on the Harmonized European Time Use (HETUS) data, the focus will be mainly on the Netherlands. Special attention is given to gender differences in time use. In addition, the report explores the extent to which countries show differences or resemblances in time use patterns, and in particular with which countries Dutch time use corresponds. Time can be spent on a broad range of activities each day. The activities considered in this report are personal care (sleeping, eating), obligations (study, paid work, household tasks and childcare), free time and travel. In which countries do people have busy lives, and where do people have the largest amount of free time? How are tasks divided between men and women? Which countries are alike in terms of the time use of the population considered? These and other questions form the subject of this report."--Publisher's website
De sociale staat van Nederland ... by Netherlands( )

Report on the elderly 2001 : changes in living situation by Joost Timmermans( Book )

5 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Report on the Elderly in the Netherlands presents an overview of the position of the elderly in Dutch society. The central themes of the Report are participation in education and the labor market, financial status, housing situation, health, participation in physical exercise, take-up of services and care provisions, and use of computers. Elderly members of ethnic minorities and residents of residential care homes and nursing homes are also included. This Report shows that the majority of elderly people living in the Netherlands are doing well. The social participation of elderly people increased in several areas during the 1990s: their participation in the labour market increased and their financial status improved. Nevertheless, there are some areas where additional policy measures are called for. The policy on the elderly needs to focus above all on elderly persons with severe health problems and on those with low socio-economic status. Report on the Elderly in the Netherlands is the fifth in the series published by the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP) at the request of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport
