Biblical viewpoint( )

The graduate faculty of Bob Jones University wishes to challenge young preachers and ministerial students to help their people understand the Scriptures. Although many conservative preachers and theological writers give striking messages on current topics, they often fail to explain the meaning of the very text which they quote to support their message. Believers need an explanation of the Bible's message for their own day. The problem of interpretation looms large in all of current theological literature. Biblical Viewpoint devotes each issue to a different book of the Bible. The title, Biblical Viewpoint, is not meant to imply an arrogant or presumptuous attitude, but rather a determination to let the meaning of Scripture decide the theological position of the periodical instead of reading into Scripture a preconceived philosophical or theological interpretation. One presupposition which all the contributors will confess is a fervent faith in the verbal inspiration and authority of the Bible. To carry out its purpose, each issue of Biblical Viewpoint will offer a variety of expositions from a specific book of the Bible. It is not intended to be a commentary on the book, but to provide thought-provoking ideas and "sermon starters" from a number of different passages. Then follow articles on particular aspects of the book, and a brief survey of the theological teaching of the book and an annotated bibliography to guide the reader in his further study. - v. 1 no. 1 (April 1967), p. 5

"Do right!" : great messages by the eminent evangelist and founder of Bob Jones University by Bob Jones( Book )

1 edition published in 1971 in English and held by 40 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the weekly Sword of the Lord, we have published some forty-five sermons by the late Dr. Bob Jones. Most of these were mechanically recorded for this purpose. We published Bob Jones Revival Sermons, a book of principal messages given in the Chicago Arena in our joint citywide campaign there in 1946. Dr. Jones was so gifted, so compelling, so inspired in his preaching, it seems that the next generation must have the impact of his preaching. He had published two other books, Here and Hereafter and Things I Have Learned, rich, shorter comments, but the great revival preaching and his life-changing messages in conferences on revival must remain available, too. We have selected sixteen rich messages, principally those we recorded, to fill this volume. Most of them were given in Sword of the Lord conferences scattered all over America. Two of them were chapel messages at Bob Jones University. We rejoice in the evangelistic emphasis in all Dr. Jones' messages. What a ministry! How many multiplied thousands were won to Christ in his anointed revival preaching! How many thousands of college students has he sent out to win souls and follow his oft-repeated injunction, "Do right!" They will remember a hundred burning, inspired slogans like: "The best ability is dependability." "Duties never conflict." "You can do anything you ought to do." I was with Dr. Jones two months before the Lord called him Home. He was 84, and very feeble, his great voice now not much more than a whisper. He did not know all of his friends but he knew me. We sang together his favorite song, "Amazing Grace." He had often asked me to sing it or to lead the congregation in singing it. I think we were as close as brothers. I often remember a prayer Dr. Jones prayed at the close of one of his sermons in the Sword of the Lord Conference at Winona Lake in the late forties. There was a certain transparent and childlike quality in his prayers so that we could see his heart. He prayed, "Lord Jesus, I have done the best I can for You today. Other people could do better but I have done the best I can. Lord Jesus, I would surely love to see Your face. If I knew that You were in China and if I could only see You ten minutes, I would go around the world to see You, Lord Jesus." That simple devotion, that utter belief in the Bible and taking it at face value, that Christ-like love for souls and all-out effort to do the will of God -- how characteristic they were! But now he has seen the Saviour's face and heard the "Well done, good and faithful servant," and has entered into the joy of the Lord. So we publish these sermons with the earnest prayer that God may bless them to many thousands as He blessed them before, when they were givein in the living voice of Dr. Jones. - John R. When Christian principles become socially unacceptable and society moves to repress them, what will the Christians do? Witness the Soviet Union before glasnost. Fear of the KGB pervades society. Christian faith is stifled wherever it is discovered. Most believers cling to a hollow shell of Christianity tolerated in "registered" churches. However, some believers opt to remain "unregistered," worshipping God openly and accepting the consequences. A brave few dare to print Bibles -- right under the noses of the KGB. This story is about them. - Container

Revealed religion : a series of paintings in the War Memorial Chapel by Benjamin West( Book )

3 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 17 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The posthumous sale of West's works in 1829 included a number of the works on "Revealed Religion" commissioned by King George III. The pictures acquired for Joseph Neeld, M.P., were hung at Grittleton House, Chippenham, Wiltshire, where they remained until 1962 when they were offered for sale at Christie's on November 16. Six were acquired for Bob Jones University with funds provided for that purpose by a friend of the University who asked to remain anonymous. They were hung in the War Memorial Chapel together with a seventh canvas, "Esau and Jacob presented to Isaac," which also formed part of the Windsor Chapel decorations. This painting had been acquired from another source by Julius Weitzner, the London art dealer. Henry and Oscar Dwoskin purchased it for the University. - p. [4]-[5]

Christian educational methods( Book )

1 edition published in 1980 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The methodology of Christian education expresses a biblical view of the human condition. Its methods are instrumental to the purpose of Christian education: to develop redeemed man in the image of God. Virtually all instructional techniques and processes commonly in use are varieties of a few basic methods. These methods are exemplified in the Scriptures. Christian education, in selecting its means, looks to the Bible for a pattern of teaching that is spiritually and pedagogically sound. From the Bible it derives both its principles and its pedagogical model. - p. 1-3
