Selected trace elements of the White Pine Group, eastern Nevada by Duane Milton Moore( )

2 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study is part of an investigation ... of the mineralogic and chemical constitution of ancient argillaceous sediments. The Mississippian White Pine Group in eastern Nevada ... was selected for study as a representative of one important type, the thick, extensive, and relatively homogeneous bodies of Paleozoic argillaceous sediments. Geochemical methods are of particular value in connection with the description, stratigraphy, and geologic history of such bodies, especially those having few fossils and distinctive, dependable lithologic horizon markers. This study has two main aims: 1) to test a method for obtaining a reasonably detailed and quantitative description of the occurrence of selected trace elements in the White Pine Group, and 2) to apply the analytical results to the interpretation of certain aspects of the depositional history of these rocks
Electron microprobe study of diabase-granite contact zones in composite dikes, Mount Desert Island, Maine / by Heribert Stindl by Heribert Stindl( )

2 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The objective of the present study ... is to: 1) examine the compositions of, on a scale of fractions of millimeters, the mineral phases and bulk rock across the contact between diabase and granite. 2) determine the extent of the reaction between the two contrasting rocks. 3) see if there is any evidence in the nature of the phase assemblages enabling one to determine the gradient in temperature and water pressure at the time of the contact formation
Rock analyses and norms by Donald M Henderson( Book )

1 edition published in 1969 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Electron microprobe and x-ray diffraction study of natural idocrase by I. M Steele( )

2 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this work ... is as follows: 1) To determine more accurately the compositional range and variations in the idocrase structure; 2) To determine whether the observed space group is a function of the composition; 3) To carry out a refined crystal structure analysis of idocrase to solve the problems which were raised by Arem and Burnham
The crystal structures of aragonite, strontianite, and witherite by J. P. R De Villiers( )

2 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this investigation is ... threefold: 1. The structures of the orthorhombic carbonates aragonite, strontianite, and witherite are determined with greater accuracy in order to remedy the lack of specific knowledge of the details of their structures. The differences between these structures are investigated as well as the differences between the calcite and aragonite structures. 2. Discrepancies in the infrared data of these carbonates are still unresolved. The basic assumptions about the geometry of the CO₃ group as well as the non-splitting of one of the infrared frequencies in witherite, is examined more closely in relation to the refined structural data. 3. The structural details will be examined in connection with their significance in the aragonite-calcite transformation. A geometric relationship between the two structures and a mechanism for the transformation is attempted, taking into account the anisotropic thermal motions of the atoms

Precambrian geology of the Republic Trough, Marquette County, Michigan by Suzanne Elizabeth Mahlburg( )

1 edition published in 1972 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The relationship between granites, tectonism, and metamorphism in the Republic Area has been a matter of controversy since the initial investigation of the Republican Trough. The purpose of this study is to compile a reasonable history of the Republic Area and to explain the relationships between granite formation, tectonism, and metamorphism ... The study area is located on the upper peninsula of Michigan ... The Republic Trough is an extension of the Marquette Trough and is a tightly folded syncline of Huronian metasediments and amphibolites surrounded by granites of different and controversial ages. The area has been subjected to high grade metamorphism and is economically important for iron ore ... The metamorphic grade in the Republic Trough is here investigated principally through study of the amphibolites and of selected pelitic samples from other formations. Structural relationships were examined in the field and in thin section, particularly in outcrops and samples of the Michigamme Formation
