The use of books and libraries by part-time business studies students at a polytechnic : a follow-up study by Philip Payne( Book )

1 edition published in 1981 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

To study the effect on library use, of additional expenditure on accounting textbooks needed by part-time business students, a study was conducted in the spring of 1980 at the City of London Polytechnic. Three techniques were used: (1) a questionnaire distributed to all part-time students in the Accountancy Department and, as a control group, all part-time students in the Economics and Banking Department; (2) semi-structured interviews with part-time students aimed at examining in more detail the role of the library in their courses; and (3) a questionnaire inserted in the additional books during a three week period. The results of the questionnaire survey, with a response rate of about 40 percent, suggest that there had been a growth in the number of part-time accountancy students who used the library since an earlier study in 1979. Nevertheless, the book use study indicated that the vast majority of loans of the additional texts were to full-time students and only 16 percent were borrowed by part-time students. Copies of both the questionnaires and the interview schedule are appended, as well as supporting data and student comments on open-ended questions. (Author/RBF)
Optimizations of human restraint systems for short-period acceleration by P. R Payne( Book )

2 editions published between 1963 and 1967 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A study of aerodynamic forces as a cause of injury during emergency escape by J. W Brinkley( Book )

2 editions published in 1973 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the high speed regime the performance of an ejection seat is limited by two factors: the structural strength of the escape system and the ability of the crowman to withstand the stresses imposed upon him during escape. The first factor is not independent of the second. The seat designer must not overdesign his structure to compensate for sizable unknowns concerning the survival capabilities of the crewman. A discussion is made of the limitations of the crewman that effect his survival during high speed escape
Bibliographic and information services in education : final report to the British Library Research and Development Department on Project SI/CT/011 by Dai Hounsell( Book )

An optimum acceleration-time history for an escape system by P. R Payne( Book )

2 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Large accelerations must be imposed upon an escape system in order for this system to rapidly leave the cockpit and safely clear the aircraft empennage. An upper bound to this acceleration-time history is imposed by the physiological limitations of the escape system occupant. The report contributes to the search for an optimum acceleration-time history which will, for a given physiological stress level, minimize the escape time and maximize the escape velocity. The authors conclude that an impulsive velocity spike, followed by a zero rise time constant acceleration, will give a 70% reduction in escape time, relative to present systems. Although this velocity profile is not shown to be the mathematically optimum form of excitation, it is the best of those investigated. (Author)
Development of a dynamic analog anthropomorphic dummy for aircraft escape system testing by P. R Payne( Book )

2 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Development and operational tests of aircraft escape systems require the use of anthropomorphic dummies which simulate both the dynamic influence of the occupant on the escape system trajectory and the dynamic response of the occupant to the escape system accelerations. The report sets forth the criteria, design features, manufacturing techniques and materials used in the development of a unique anthropomorphic dummy. (Author)
