100 years of Olympic films( Visual )

1 edition published in 2017 in French and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

France's first Olympic Winter Games since 1924 were held in Grenoble in 1968, and they inspired two films. 13 Days in France married footage shot by numerous cinematographers and set it to the music of Francis Lai, creating an impressionistic kaleidoscope of a movie. Dialogue is sparse, and during some of the sequences there is neither commentary or dialogue, only music. Snows of Grenoble is much wider-ranging in its coverage, though it strives to capture the kinetic energy of the Games rather than attempting a detailed analysis, making viewers feel as though they are sharing the danger and excitement of the competitors. The film renders the wretched weather conditions of the Games in imagery that's almost palpable. 13 Days in France was scheduled to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival of 1968, but when the festival shuddered to a halt in support of the May '68 riots in France, the screening was canceled. So Lelouch took the film to the Berlin Film Festival, which at that time occurred in June. Snows of Grenoble had to wait until December of that year for a release in France
