3 editions published in 1981 in English and held by 382 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A review of the contributions of research on behavioral mechanisms of drug dependence, to interpret the relation of animal and human behavioral pharmacology findings to prevention of human drug dependence. The monograph brings together concepts from clinical and behavioral pharmacology and seeks the common processes underlying various forms of substance abuse. It describes effects of personality and the individual's history of drug exposure upon drug self-administration and discusses control of drug-related behavior by external and internal stimuli. Other sections deal with commonalities and differences among reinforcers and the maintenance of drug dependence by complex second-order schedules, in which drug-using behavior is maintained by environmental stimuli only remotely linked with drug administration. Keywords: Drug addiction, Pharmacology, Conditioned responses, Conditioned stimulus, Substances abuse, Behavior, Self-administration of drugs. (JES)

Highlights from student drug use in America, 1975-1980 by Lloyd Johnston( Book )

4 editions published between 1980 and 1981 in English and held by 226 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report presents findings from a national survey of the 1975-80 high school classes, focusing on drug use and related attitudes of American high school seniors. The materials highlight data on grade of first use, usage trends at earlier grade levels, intensity of drug use, attitudes and beliefs about various types of drug use, and students' perceptions about their social environment. A description of the research is provided in the introduction, followed by an overview of key findings from 1980 data, E.G., a decline in the use of cigarettes, marijuana, pcp, inhalants, and barbituates, and stability in the use of cocaine and heroin. An increase in the use of stimulants and methaqualone is reported, accompanied by an increase in the proportion of seniors who use illicit drugs other than marijuana. The conclusion reflects the continued trend of widespread drug use among high school students. (Nrb)

5 editions published between 1976 and 1978 in English and held by 152 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Psychopharmacology of Hallucinogens focuses on the properties, compositions, functions, transformations, and reactions of hallucinogens. The selection first offers information on the biosynthesis and action of hallucinogens in mammals; role of biogenic amines in the actions of monomethoxy-amphetamines; and molecular mechanism of action of hallucinogens. The book then takes a look at the molecular determinants for interaction with the LSD receptor, including biological studies, molecular reactivity, and summation of the molecular polarization complexes. The text examines the progress on the
