"The Glorious Revolution, also called the Revolution of 1688, was the overthrow of King James II of England (James VII of Scotland and James II of Ireland) by a union of English Parliamentarians with the Dutch stadtholder William III of Orange-Nassau (William of Orange). William's successful invasion of England with a Dutch fleet and army led to his ascending of the English throne as William III of England jointly with his wife Mary II of England."--Wikipedia

25 editions published between 1961 and 1985 in English and held by 770 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A period of intense political strife during 1679-81 generated by the attempt to bar Charles II's catholic brother James, duke of York, from the succession. Widespread apprehension that James would inaugurate a catholic ?absolutist? monarchy was aroused in 1678 by Titus Oates's revelations of a Popish plot. In the three parliaments called between 1679 and 1681 discontented ?Whig? groups exploited their majority in the Commons, but were each time defeated when the king used his prerogative to close proceedings."--Oxford Dictionary of British History via answers.com

Liberty secured? : Britain before and after 1688( Book )

9 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 474 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Two sets of linked chapters examine areas of life in which the Revolution brought no formal securing of rights, freedom of the press and religious liberty. Lois G. Schwoerer considers the attitudes of successive governments toward the press up to the lapsing of the Licensing Act in 1695, and G.C. Gibbs describes what followed this end of prepublication censorship. Gordon J. Schochet reconstructs the intellectual context of the Toleration Act of 1689, and R.K. Webb traces the progress from grudging acceptance of religious diversity to the inauguration of religious liberty in the next century and a half." "The final papers explore two other aspects of change during the next century that stemmed from the Revolution. Henry Horwitz examines modifications in the theory and practice of law, and Kathleen Wilson analyzes the movements pressing for political reform and the debates that saw the articulation of new concepts of liberty."--Jacket

The Anglo-Dutch wars of the seventeenth century by J. R Jones( Book )

15 editions published between 1996 and 2014 in English and held by 345 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study of the Anglo--Dutch Wars (1652-54, 1665-67, 1672-74) sets them in their naval, political and economic contexts. Competing essentially over trade, both governments were crucially influenced by mercantile interests and by the representative institutions that were central to England and the Dutch Republic. Professor Jones compares the effectiveness of the governments under pressure - English with Dutch, Commonwealth with restored monarchy, Republican with Orangist - and the effects on their economies; and examines the importance of the wars in accelerating the formation of a profession

Country and court : England, 1658-1714 by J. R Jones( Book )

9 editions published between 1978 and 1993 in English and Undetermined and held by 40 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is a history of the turbulent period from the fall of the Commonwealth to the death of Queen Anne. Professor Jones unravels the complexities of Restoration politics which, in the absence of any consensus of constitutional definition, were marked by sweeping adventures like the secret Treaty of Dover, pursued in an atmosphere of intrigue, cynicism and panic. After 1688, by contrast, the basic constitutional principles were accepted and embodied in the Bill of Rights and the Act of Settlement. Parliament was now established as a partner in government while politics centred on a continuous battle to control it, splitting the nation into whig and tory camps
