Nietzsche's philosophy by Eugen Fink( Book )

129 editions published between 1960 and 2011 in 10 languages and held by 1,002 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Nietzsche's Philosophy traces the passionate development of Nietzsche's thought from the aestheticism of The Birth of Tragedy through to the late doctrines of the "will to power" and "eternal return". Inspired by the phenomenological method of Edmund Husserl and by the work of Martin Heidegger, Fink exposes the central themes of Nietzsche's philosophy, revealing the philosopher who experiences thinking as a fate and who ultimately searches for an expression of his own ontological experience in a negative theology

Sixth Cartesian meditation : the idea of a transcendental theory of method by Eugen Fink( Book )

8 editions published between 1994 and 1995 in English and held by 426 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Eugen Fink's Sixth Cartesian Meditation, accompanied by Edmund Husserl's detailed and extensive notations, is a pivotal document in the development of one of the dominant philosophical directions of the twentieth century, Husserlian transcendental phenomenology. Meant to follow a systematic revision of Husserl's first five Cartesian Meditations, the Sixth Meditation, written in 1932, constituted a dialogue between Husserl and Fink on the basic principles of phenomenology and on its theoretical limits. The resulting text provides a framework for a radical reinterpretation of phenomenology. Ronald Bruzina's meticulous translation and substantial introduction, detailing the history and importance of the text, make this first English-language edition of Sixth Cartesian Meditation essential reading for students of twentieth-century thought

Conversations with Husserl and Fink by Dorion Cairns( Book )

13 editions published between 1976 and 1997 in English and French and held by 388 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is an unusual volume. During his periods of study with Ed mund Husserl - first from I924 1. 0 I926, then from I93I to I932 - Dorion Cairns had become imnlensely impressed with the stri king philosophical quality of Husserl's conversations with his students and co-workers. Not unlike his daily writing (five to six hours a day was not uncommon, as Husserl reports herein, the nature of which was a continuous searching, reassessing, modi fying, advancing and even rejecting of former views), Husserl's conversations, especially evidenced from Cairns's record, were remarkable for their depth and probing character. Because of this, and because of the importaIlt light they threw on Husserl's written and published works, Cairns had early resolved to set down in writing, as accurately as possible, the details of these conversations. Largely prompted by the questions and concerns of his students, including Cairns, the present Conversations (from the second period, I93I-I932, except for the initial conversation) provide a significant, intriguing, and always fascinating insight into both the issues which were prominent to Husserl at this time, and the way he had come to view the systematic and historical placement of his own earlier studies. Cairns had often insisted - principally in his remarkable lec 1 tures at the Graduate Faculty of the New School - that attaining a fair and accurate view of Husserl's enormously rich and complex 1 Cairns's lectures between 1956 and 1964 are especially important

Play as symbol of the world and other writings by Eugen Fink( Book )

5 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 90 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Eugen Fink is considered one of the clearest interpreters of phenomenology and was the preferred conversational partner of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. In Play as Symbol of the World, Fink offers an original phenomenology of play as he attempts to understand the world through the experience of play. He affirms the philosophical significance of play, why it is more than idle amusement, and reflects on the movement from "child's play" to "cosmic play." Well-known for its non-technical, literary style, this skillful translation by Ian Alexander Moore and Christopher Turner invites engagement with Fink's philosophy of play and related writings on sports, festivals, and ancient cult practices
