5 editions published in 1974 in English and held by 141 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This manual provides the planner and the engineer with the basic considerations necessary to plan pedestrian facilities or systems of facilities. Each of the types of impacts to users and nonusers of pedestrian facilities is discussed. The interrelationships among facility characteristics and the various levels of impacts on pedestrians, motorists, abutting property occupants, and the community in general are presented. An approach to general economic cost estimating in terms of both construction cost and continuing operating and maintenance costs is described. Several means of converting these costs to a figure useful in comparing facilities and evaluating benefits are given
Guidelines for designing travel surveys for statewide transportation planning by John F Direnzo( Book )

5 editions published in 1976 in English and held by 138 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report identifies the types and sources of person travel data likely to be used for statewide transportation planning and presents procedures for developing sampling plans and survey designs for conducting travel surveys to collect the required travel information. Sampling concepts, formulas, and survey administration guidelines are documented for conducting statewide and regional household travel surveys, intercity modal passenger surveys, and roadside surveys. Both cross- sectional and seasonal survey designs are evaluated. Procedures are presented for estimating required sample sizes for alternative types of survey estimates of interest in statewide transportation planning. The application of these procedures is illustrated using "real world" sampling problems. The influence of alternative levels of precision on sample size requirements is presented in the report

Guidelines for applying criteria to designate routes for transporting hazardous materials by Edward J Barber( Book )

2 editions published in 1980 in English and held by 117 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Techniques are explained that may be used for evaluating alternative highway routes for hazardous materials movements. The criteria that may be applied for hazardous materials routing is briefly described and their application is illustrated by an example. Current routing practices, with existing regulatory requirements, are described as background. An overview of the routing method is followed by a description of the guidelines and procedures for applying the routing criteria. The concept of risk is defined and each step in the route selection explained. A hypothetical case study illustrates the application of the routing procedures; the example includes personal and property risk calculations and illustrates the techniques for analyzing urban arterials and rural highways. Blank worksheets and forms for structuring and conducting the routing analyses are appended
