Future directions for Alberta's heritage fund : report of the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund Review Committee by Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund( Book )

3 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Alberta government established the Alberta Heritage Trust Fund in 1976 to set aside part of the province's oil and gas revenues for future generations. With decreases in those revenues in the 1980s, the province stopped putting money into the Fund in 1987. Since then, interest on the approximately $11 billion sitting in the Fund has been spent on such priority areas as education and social services. In a time of high public debt, the Alberta government has decided to reassess the role of the Fund and appointed a review committee to gather submissions from the public, including hearings and questionnaires, regarding future directions for the Fund. This report presents the findings of that committee and the committee's recommendations intended to help the government develop a clear, long-term vision for the Fund
