Dalibor by Bedřich Smetana( )

9 editions published between 1968 and 2015 in 4 languages and held by 439 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Smetana’s tragic opera 'Dalibor' from 1868 is now acknowledged as a masterpiece, containing some of his greatest music. It tells a tale of knightly ideals, chivalry, love and loyalty, with striking echoes of Fidelio. The story transports us to 15th-century Prague, where Dalibor is imprisoned having avenged the death of his musician friend Zdenk. The sister of his victim, Milada, is touched by his plight and disguises herself as a boy violinist in order to enter the gaol

An exciting performance of Smetana's historic-tragic operatic masterpiece, Dalibor, a romantic tale of chivalry and patriotism. Gustav Mahler first conducted Dalibor in Vienna and this probably represents his performing version. Never before available at budget price, this opera stars the legendary soprano Leonie Rysanek along with her younger sister, Lotte, also a fine singer, and the heroic tenor Ludovic Spiess who will surprise those who haven't heard of him!

Edice, obsahující český převod Ervína Špindlera - podklad Smetanovy opery - a původní německý text Wenzigův, je uvedena obsáhlou statí vydavatele Jos. Bartoše. V ní je vzpomenuto Wenzigovo úsilí o zrovnoprávnění češtiny s němčinou a podrobně probrány prameny libreta: kanovník Kosmas a Rukopis zelenohorský. B. za kladnou stránku Libuše považuje "rovnoměrné rozložení staré české pověsti v jednotl. akty a scény, jasnou psychologii vystupujících osob a plno míst hudebníka inspirujících". - Pro srovnání s věštbami Wenzigovými připojen i text J.J. Kolára: Věštba Libušina
