Promoting moral growth : from Piaget to Kohlberg by Richard H Hersh( Book )

39 editions published between 1979 and 2002 in English and Spanish and held by 1,377 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Written for the classroom teacher, this book examines the relationship of Lawrence Kohlberg's psychological theories to educational practice and articulates a sequence of steps necessary to understand the role of the moral educator. Part I discusses educational psychologist Jean Piaget's six stages of moral development. It also examines Kohlberg's perception of the development of moral judgment and his theories of moral development and moral education. Part ii discusses educational practice. Emphasis is on how to use many strategies to promote moral development, how to create a moral development curriculum out of existing content and school life, and how to use the "just community" approach in organizing structure and process for schooling. Three themes provide the focus for discussion: 1) that moral issues are a part of all educational experience; 2) that once teachers decide to include the moral domain as part of classroom inquiry, their own moral awareness is deepened; and 3) that the process of becoming a moral educator is an integrative one in which a teacher's own goals, style, and competence are meshed with Kohlberg's theory. Diagnostic examination of Generation 2 lithium-ion cells and assessment ofperformance degradation mechanisms( )

1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Advanced Technology Development (ATD) Program is a multilaboratory effort to assist industrial developers of high-power lithium-ion batteries overcome the barriers of cost, calendar life, abuse tolerance, and low-temperature performance so that this technology may be rendered practical for use in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). Included in the ATD Program is a comprehensive diagnostics effort conducted by researchers at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The goals of this effort are to identify and characterize processes that limit lithium-ion battery performance and calendar life, and ultimately to describe the specific mechanisms that cause performance degradation. This report is a compilation of the diagnostics effort conducted since spring 2001 to characterize Generation 2 ATD cells and cell components. The report is divided into a main body and appendices. Information on the diagnostic approach, details from individual diagnostic techniques, and details on the phenomenological model used to link the diagnostic data to the loss of 18650-cell electrochemical performance are included in the appendices. The main body of the report includes an overview of the 18650-cell test data, summarizes diagnostic data and modeling information contained in the appendices, and provides an assessment of the various mechanisms that have been postulated to explain performance degradation of the 18650 cells during accelerated aging. This report is intended to serve as a ready reference on ATD Generation 2 18650-cell performance and provide information on the tools for diagnostic examination and relevance of the acquired data. A comprehensive account of our experimental procedures and resulting data may be obtained by consulting the various references listed in the text. We hope that this report will serve as a roadmap for the diagnostic analyses of other lithium-ion technologies being evaluated for HEV applications. It is our hope that the information contained in this report will lead to the development of new lithium-ion cell chemistries and designs that will meet the 15-year cell calendar-life goal established by DOE's FreedomCar and Fuel Partnership
On Ex Situ NMR : Developing portable low-cost and/or single sided NMR/MRI( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) is of unsurpassed versatility in its ability to non-destructively probe for chemical identity. Portable, low-cost NMR sensors would enable on site identification of potentially hazardous substances, such as signatures from production of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapon agents, narcotics, explosives, toxins, and poisons. There exist however problems that need to be considered in the case of such sensors: (a) small-scale magnets produce inhomogeneous magnetic fields and therefore undesired Larmor frequency distributions that conceal much of the useful spectral information, and (b) sensitivity in most experiments decreases due to the inherently low and strongly inhomogeneous fields associated with portable instruments. Our approach is to: (a) try to improve the field of low cost magnets either with hardware (e.g. magnet design and construction of ''shim coils'') or via special pulse sequences, where the field is ''effectively shimmed'' to appear homogeneous to the sample, and (b) to use microcoils to improve sensitivity and to allow focusing in smaller regions and therefore smaller static field variations. We have been working in setting up a table top, 2-Tesla permanent Halbach magnet system for tabletop NMR. The Spectrometer console is a Tecmag Apollo, controlled by a dell notebook. Currently an external linear chemagnetics rf amplifier is being used, though the power requirements for our system are quite low (a few Watts). The Magnetic Resonance lab in LLNL, has developed several types and sizes of microcoils, which have been proven to perform well for NMR experiments. We have evaluated an rf, 360 {micro}m O.D., microcoil probe that was built previously. We have finished mapping the magnetic field of the magnet. In the optimal position (in terms of field quality), the field inhomogeneity was at 17ppm. Preliminary fluorine spectra with a resolved two peak separation have now been obtained. For the field, as mapped, we have initial designs of first degree shimming, or gradient coils (linear correction to the field). We have calculated ''shim pulses'' to effectively shim the mapped field, for ideal gradient coils. These calculations will be repeated after the coils will be built and evaluated

One couple at a time : learning to educate interfaith couples by Joseph Reimer( Book )

1 edition published in 1996 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The focus in this paper will be on an adult context known as the outreach group. Since the early 1980's Temple Akiba has been sponsoring an outreach group to interfaith couples who are married or are considering to marriage. The purpose is to provide a supporting setting for the Jewish and non-Jewish members to air issues they face as interfaith couples. Following the guidelines of support groups, this is not a didactic context for teaching Judaism. Rather, couples who have not yet decided how to handle issues of faith and observance are free to come (without fee or requirement to join the synagogue) to discuss their questions and concerns"--page 2

KORRELATION VON FREIKIRCHE UND WELT. EINE MISSIONSTHEOLOGISCH-PHÄNOMENOLOGISCHE REFLEXION ÜBER DAS BEZIEHUNGSVERHÄLTNIS VON FREIKIRCHE UND WELT IM DEUTSCHSPRACHIGEN RAUM by Stefan Vatter( )

1 edition published in 2017 in German and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
