The mathematical legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan by M. Ram Murty( )

16 editions published between 2012 and 2013 in English and held by 430 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Srinivasa Ramanujan was a mathematician brilliant beyond compare. There is extensive literature available on the work of Ramanujan, but what is more difficult to find in the literature is an analysis that would place his mathematics in context and interpret it in terms of modern developments. The 12 lectures by G.H. Hardy, delivered in 1936, served this purpose at the time they were given. This book presents Ramanujan's essential mathematical contributions and gives an informal account of some of the major developments that emanated from his work in the 20th and 21st centuries. It contends that his work is still having an impact on many different fields of mathematical research. The book examines some of these themes in the landscape of 21st-century mathematics. These essays, based on the lectures given by the authors, focus on a subset of Ramanujan's significant papers and show how these papers shaped the course of modern mathematics
Non-vanishing of L-functions and applications by Maruti Ram Murty( Book )

27 editions published between 1995 and 2014 in English and held by 425 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book systematically develops some methods for proving the non-vanishing of certain L-functions at points in the critical strip. Researchers in number theory, graduate students who wish to enter into the area and non-specialists who wish to acquire an introduction to the subject will benefit by a study of this book. One of the most attractive features of the monograph is that it begins at a very basic level and quickly develops enough aspects of the theory to bring the reader to a point where the latest discoveries as are presented in the final chapters can be fully appreciated
Number theory : Ramanujan Mathematical Society, January 3-6, 1996, Tiruchirapalli, India by International Conference on Discrete Mathematics and Number Theory( Book )

Seminar on Fermat's last theorem : 1993-1994, the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, Toronto, Ontario, Canada by Toronto) Seminar on Fermat's Last Theorem (1993 - 1994( Book )

13 editions published between 1995 and 1996 in English and held by 269 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The most significant recent development in number theory is the work of Andrew Wiles on modular elliptic curves. Besides implying Fermat's Last Theorem, his work establishes a new reciprocity law. Reciprocity laws lie at the heart of number theory. Wiles' work draws on many of the tools of modern number theory and the purpose of this volume is to introduce readers to some of this background material. Based on a seminar held during 1993-1994 at the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, this book contains articles on elliptic curves, modular forms and modular curves, Serre's conjectures, Ribet's theorem, deformations of Galois representations, Euler systems, and annihilators of Selmer groups. All of the authors are well known in their field and have made significant contributions to the general area of elliptic curves, Galois representations, and modular forms
Introduction to Abelian varieties by Vijaya Kumar Murty( Book )

14 editions published between 1986 and 1993 in English and held by 213 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The book represents an introduction to the theory of abelian varieties with a view to arithmetic. The aim is to introduce some of the basics of the theory as well as some recent arithmetic applications to graduate students and researchers in other fields. The first part contains proofs of the Abel-Jacobi theorem, Riemann's relations and the Lefschetz theorem on projective embeddings over the complex numbers in the spirit of S. Lang's book Introduction to algebraic and abelian functions. Then the Jacobians of Fermat curves as well as some modular curves are discussed. Finally, as an application
Algebraic curves and cryptography( Book )

7 editions published between 2010 and 2012 in English and held by 202 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

It is by now a well-known paradigm that public-key cryptosystems can be built using finite Abelian groups and that algebraic geometry provides a supply of such groups through Abelian varieties over finite fields. Of special interest are the Abelian varieties that are Jacobians of algebraic curves. All of the articles in this volume are centered on the theme of point counting and explicit arithmetic on the Jacobians of curves over finite fields. The topics covered include Schoof's \ell-adic point counting algorithm, the p-adic algorithms of Kedlaya and Denef-Vercauteren, explicit arithmetic on
Number theory related to modular curves : Momose memorial volume : seminar in memory of Fumiyuki Momose, Barcelona-Boston-Tokyo Number Theory, Barcelona( Book )

7 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 98 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume is dedicated to the memory of Fumiyuki Momose. It mostly contains articles based on talks given at a conference in his honour that was held in 2012 in Barcelona
Number Theory Related to Modular Curves : Momose Memorial Volume by Joan-Carles Lario( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains the proceedings of the Barcelona-Boston-Tokyo Number Theory Seminar, which was held in memory of Fumiyuki Momose, a distinguished number theorist from Chuo University in Tokyo. Momose, who was a student of Yasutaka Ihara, made important contributions to the theory of Galois representations attached to modular forms, rational points on elliptic and modular curves, modularity of some families of Abelian varieties, and applications of arithmetic geometry to cryptography. Papers contained in this volume cover these general themes in addition to discussing Momose's contribution
