The balanced scorecard : translating strategy into action by Robert S Kaplan( Book )

72 editions published between 1996 and 2009 in 4 languages and held by 3,347 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Here is the book - by the recognized architects of the Balanced Scorecard - that shows how managers can use this revolutionary tool to mobilize their people to fulfill the company's mission. More than just a measurement system, the Balanced Scorecard is a management system that can channel the energies, abilities, and specific knowledge held by people throughout the organization toward achieving long-term strategic goals. Kaplan and Norton demonstrate how senior executives in industries such as banking, oil, insurance, and retailing are using the Balanced Scorecard both to guide current performance and to target future performance. They show how to use measures in four categories - financial performance, customer knowledge, internal business processes, and learning and growth - to align individual, organizational, and cross-departmental initiatives and to identify entirely new processes for meeting customer and shareholder objectives. The authors also reveal how to use the Balanced Scorecard as a robust learning system for testing, gaining feedback on, and updating the organization's strategy. Finally, they walk through the steps that managers in any company can use to build their own Balanced Scorecard. The Balanced Scorecard provides the management system for companies to invest in the long term - in customers, in employees, in new product development, and in systems - rather than managing the bottom line to pump up short-term earnings. It will change the way you measure and manage your business"--

"Most organizations contain multiple business and support units, each led by highly trained, experienced executives and staffed by talented employees. The execution premium : linking strategy to operations for competitive advantage by Robert S Kaplan( Book )

18 editions published between 2008 and 2009 in English and Dutch and held by 578 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In a world of stiffening competition, business strategy is more crucial than ever. Yet most organizations struggle in this area -- not with formulating strategy but with executing it, or putting their strategy into action. Owing to execution failures, companies realize just a fraction of the financial performance promised in their strategic plans. It doesn't have to be that way, maintain Robert Kaplan and David Norton. Building on their works on strategy-focused organizations, the authors describe a multistage system that enables you to gain measurable benefits from your carefully formulated business strategy. This book shows you how to: develop an effective strategy -- with tools such as SWOT analysis, vision formulation, and strategic change agendas; plan execution of the strategy -- through portfolios of strategic initiatives linked to strategy maps and Balanced Scorecards; put your strategy into action -- by integrating operational tools such as process dashboards, rolling forecasts, and activity-based costing; and test and update your strategy -- using carefully designed management meetings to review operational and strategic data
Time-driven activity-based costing : a simpler and more powerful path to higher profits by Robert S Kaplan( Book )

34 editions published between 2004 and 2011 in 8 languages and held by 491 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the classroom, activity-based costing (ABC) looks like a great way to manage a company's limited resources. But executives who have tried to implement ABC in their organizations on any significant scale have often abandoned the attempt in the face of rising costs and employee irritation. Time-Driven Activity-Based Costing is the solution to the problems associated with large-scale ABC implementation. In this book, Kaplan and Anderson offer a revised model where managers can estimate the resource demands imposed by each transaction, product, or customer, rather than rely on time-consuming and costly employee surveys. In their new model, Kaplan and Anderson focus on the two parameters managers need to estimate: how much it costs per time unit to supply resources to the business activities (the total overhead expenditure of a department divided by the total number of minutes of employee time available) and how much time it takes to carry out one unit of each kind of activity (as estimated or observed by the manager). Rather than endlessly updating and maintaining ABC data, this book with allow managers to spend their time addressing the deficiencies the model reveals: inefficient processes, unprofitable products and customers, and excess capacity. Kaplan and Anderson lead the discussion of Time-Driven ABC in the first seven chapters, followed by individual cases studies of actual implementations by Acorn consultants in diverse settings
