Murder on the reservation : American Indian crime fiction : aims and achievements by Ray B Browne( )

10 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 1,607 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In Murder on the Reservation, Ray B. Browne surveys the work of several of the best-known writers of crime fiction involving Indian characters and references virtually every book that qualifies as an Indian-related mystery. "The crime fiction examined here covers virtually all of recorded history - from ancient Egypt through classical Greece and Rome; from medieval Europe through nineteenth-century England and America. The essays in this collection analyze and evaluate these works and demonstrate that they are not only gripping stories in their own right, but also the nerve center for historians of all stripes - from the professional to the most casual minded - to learn about past societies. People of the past appear with all their pretenses down and their acts of violence laid bare."--Jacket

Motion picture images have influenced the American mind since the earliest days of film, and many thoughtful people are becoming ever more concerned about that influence, as about the pervasive influence of television. In eras of economic instability and international conflict, the film industry has not hesitated to use motion pictures for definite propaganda purposes. During less troubled times, the American citizen's ability to deal with political and social issues has been enhanced or thwarted by images absorbed in the nation's theatres. Hollywood As Historian tracks the interaction of Ame
