Breakthroughs in statistics by Samuel Kotz( Book )

56 editions published between 1991 and 1997 in 3 languages and held by 637 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is a two volume collection of seminal papers in the statistical sciences written during the past 100 years. These papers have each had an outstanding influence on the development of statistical theory and practice over the last century. Each paper is preceded by an introduction written by an authority in the field providing background information and assessing its influence. Readers will enjoy a fresh outlook on now well-established features of statistical techniques and philosophy by becoming acquainted with the ways they have been developed. It is hoped that some readers will be stimulated to study some of the references provided in the Introductions (and also in the papers themselves) and so attain a deeper background knowledge of the basis of their work
Urn models and their application : an approach to modern discrete probability theory by Norman Lloyd Johnson( Book )

16 editions published between 1977 and 1988 in English and German and held by 623 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Leading personalities in statistical sciences : from the 17th century to the present by Norman L Johnson( Book )

9 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 534 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This handsomely illustrated volume will make enthralling reading for scientists, mathematicians, and science history buffs alike. Spanning nearly four centuries, it chronicles the lives and achievements of more than 110 of the most prominent names in theoretical and applied statistics and probability. From Bernoulli to Markov, Poisson to Wiener, you will find intimate profiles of women and men whose work led to significant advances in the areas of statistical inference and theory, probability theory, government and economic statistics, medical and agricultural statistics, and science and engineering. To help readers arrive at a fuller appreciation of the contributions these pioneers made, the authors vividly re-create the times in which they lived while exploring the major intellectual currents that shaped their thinking and propelled their discoveries."--Jacket
Systems of frequency curves by William Palin Elderton( Book )

33 editions published between 1969 and 2009 in English and Undetermined and held by 532 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sir William Elderton's Frequency Curves and Correlation was first published in 1906 and subsequently three new editions were published. It has long enjoyed popularity as a source of clear descriptions of the practical use of Pearson and also Gram-Charlie systems of frequency curves. Professor Johnson has substantially revised this book. The material on correlations has been omitted; descriptions of further kinds of frequency curves have been added; the treatment of frequency surfaces has been recast and broadened; and the opportunity has been taken to amend the original text in the light of later research. The aim of this book remains essentially practical. There is no attempt at encyclopaedic coverage of all known systems of frequency curves and surfaces. It should be of especial value as a quick reference book (for statisticians and non-statisticians alike) for formulae and methods used in fitting frequency curves
Continuous multivariate distributions by Samuel Kotz( Book )

Univariate discrete distributions by Norman Lloyd Johnson( Book )

4 editions published between 1992 and 2005 in English and held by 412 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Addresses the latest advances in discrete distributions theory including the development of new distributions, new families of distributions and a better understanding of their interrelationships. Greater emphasis on the increasing relevance of Bayesian inference to discrete distribution, especially with regard to the binomial and Poisson distributions, is covered. All chapters have been revised to make them user-friendly and more up-to-date. Extensive information on new mixtures, including generalized hypergeometric families, and the increased use of the computer have been added. The bibliography is updated and expanded along with relevant chapter and section numbers

Theory of random functions and its application to control problems by V. S Pugachev( Book )

11 editions published in 1965 in English and Multiple languages and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Theory of Random Functions and Its Application to Control Problems presents insights into a branch of probability theory, the theory of random functions, which studies and takes into account the effects of random factors on the functioning of control systems. The book does not require a high level of competency in the use of mathematical techniques and explains the basics of probability theory before focusing on the concepts of the theory of random functions. The selection also discusses in great detail the aspects of random functions and provides chapters that cover the determination and solu
