The force of fantasy : restoring the American dream by Ernest G Bormann( Book )

7 editions published between 1985 and 2001 in English and Italian and held by 636 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this book, first published in 1985, Ernest G. Bormann explores mass persuasion in America from 1620 to 1860, examining closely four rhetorical communities: the revivals of 1739-1740, the hot gospel of the postrevolutionary period, the evangelical revival and reform of the 1830s, and the Free Soil and Republican parties. Each community varies greatly, but Bormann asserts that each succeeding community shares a rhetorical vision of restoring the "American Dream" that is essentially a modification of the previous visions. Thus, they form a family of rhetorical visions that constitutes a rhetorical tradition of importance in nineteenth-century American popular culture. -- from back cover

Defining the emerging rhetorical vision of the early twentieth century Appalachian mountaineer : a fantasy theme analysis of Appalachian song by Kevin M McAnnany( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"During the years of 1880-1920, the culture of the mountaineers in the Appalachian range of the eastern United States transformed significantly. Due to the pressures of newly developed industrialization within the region, this people group became the casualty on the profits of outlanders. Through a rhetorical examination of folk song of the region using Ernest Bormann's Fantasy Theme Analysis, this study shows the loss of culture and self-identity of the community."--Leaf iii

The word became flesh : an exploration of the transformitive rhetoric of women's tattoos utilizing Bormann's fantasy theme analysis by Sally Gene Karkula( )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"This study uses Ernest Bormann's fantasy theme analysis to examine women's tattoo as a form of visual communication. This work includes a general background of Western tattoo, a history of women's tattoo in North America, and an exploration of the cultural impact of women's tattoo over the last century. Qualitative methods are used to examine the narratives of 15 women, ages 19 to 54, regarding their tattoos and experiences surrounding their tattoos. This study concludes that women's tattoo is a valid and complex form of communication, and also expands on Bormann's original theory, concluding that women's tattoos create an instant rhetorical community for the bearers."--Leaf 1
Stepmothers : a pilot study on the reality of motherhood by Tammy Lynn Wilkinson( )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"With the increasing numbers of remarriages each year, the stepfamily is growing more a part of our society each day. As a result, there is an increase in the need to understand communication and relationship development, particularly among stepmothers and step children. This pilot study examines family communication and relationship development in relation to fantasy and expectations. The study applies communication theorist Ernest Bormann theory of fantasy theme analysis for foundation of the research. A qualitative study was used to determine the findings and discover the fantasy themes. The research found stepmothers do have preconceived fantasies of communication and relationship development with their stepchildren."--Leaf v
A Bormann analysis of marketing tools used in online college recruitments by Timothy Edward Harlow( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"With the Internet becoming more and more an integral part of our daily lives, it is not surprising that online education is slowly becoming a viable option for working adults looking to further their education without sacrificing their careers, family responsibilities and other areas of their lives. This research examines the pros and cons of online education in an effort to help those contemplating this method of study to make an informed decision. Communication theorist Ernest Bormann provides the foundation for the research. A qualitative study was used to determine the findings and discover the fantasy themes. This study found that colleges offering e-learning create the impression that online learning is an easier and convenient way for busy adults to obtain higher education, and that earning a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree is something that can be done on the side."--Leaf v
