Physiology of woody plants by T. T Kozlowski( )

52 editions published between 1960 and 2008 in English and German and held by 2,422 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This second edition expands and updates the major portions of Physiology of Woody Plants by Paul J. Kramer and Theodore T. Kozlowski, published by Academic Press in 1979. Since that book was published, intensive research has filled important gaps in our knowledge and altered some of our basic views on how woody plants grow. We therefore considered it important to publish a second edition, updating what is known about the physiology of woody plants. This volume was written for use as a text by students and as a reference for researchers and growers who need to understand woody plant physiology. The subject matter is interdisciplinary in scope and should be useful to a broad range of scientists, including agroforesters, agronomists, arborists, biotechnologists, botanists, entomologists, foresters, horticulturists, plant breeders, plant ecologists, plant geneticists, landscape architects, plant pathologists, plant physiologists, and soil scientists. It should also be of interest to those who grow and manage woody plants for the production of food and fiber. The first chapter emphasizes the importance of physiological processes through which heredity and environrnent interact to influence plant growth. The second chapter presents an overview of both the forro and the structure of woody plants. Attention is given to crown forro, stem forro, and anatomy of leaves, stems, roots, and reproductive structures of angiosperms and gyrnnosperms. The third chapter describes pattems of vegetative growth of both temperatezone and tropical woody plants. The fourth chapter characterizes the essentials of reproductive growth. Chapters 5 through 13 describe the salient features of the important physiological processes involved in plant growth and development. Separate chapters are devoted to photosynthesis, respiration, carbohydrate relations, nitrogen relations, mineral relations, absorption of water, transpiration, and plant hormones and other endogenous growth regulators

Growth control in woody plants by T. T Kozlowski( Book )

19 editions published between 1996 and 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 522 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The processes and mechanisms that control the growth of woody plants are of crucial importance for both economic and biological reasons. The comprehensive coverage of Growth Control in Woody Plants includes discussion of the growth controlling factors in both reproductive structures (flowers, fruit, seeds, pollen, etc.) and vegetative organs (stems, branches, leaves, and roots). Other major topics covered include seed germination, seedling growth, physiological and environmental regulation of growth, cultural practices, and biotechnology. This comprehensive treatment of the many factors that control the growth of woody plants can serve both as a valuable text and as a frequently used reference

Controlled environment guidelines for plant research : proceedings of the Controlled Environments Working Conference held at Madison, Wisconsin, March 12-14, 1979 by T. W Tibbitts( Book )

17 editions published in 1979 in English and held by 405 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The general objective of the workshop was to aid in development of a set of guidelines for the environmental measurements which should be made by scientists doing research on plants in controlled environments. There is urgent need for standardization of instrumentation and of units of measurement so work done in various laboratories can be compared. This work was started by a committee of the American Society for Horticultural Science and was also under study by a USDA committee
