A concert violinist, Angelo Diotti comes to America from a foreign country and becomes infatuated with a banker's cold-hearted daughter. He is presented with a violin equipped with an extra "fifth string". Music played on this string enchants the listener, but brings death to the player(s) associated with the daughter. Obtaining supernatural powers with disastrous consequences or "selling your soul to the devil" was written many years ago with Faust as the main character. Plots of this nature are known as the "Faust Legend". A story of a marvelous violin, of a wonderful love, and of a strange temptation.
