10 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 1,044 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The media's presentation suggests that American teenage culture today is the most violent, sexual, and amoral youth culture in history. In this book, Nichols and Good deconstruct the negative images held by large numbers of adults. Recognizing that many teenagers are left by adults to socialize themselves and the consequences of this "careless indifference," the authors' goal is to influence a more positive view leading to stronger social polices and better services, resources, and programs to meet the needs of America's youth."--Jacket
American education : yesterday, today, and tomorrow by Thomas L Good( Book )

10 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 847 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"As the title of the 99th Yearbook, Part II, declares, this volume, edited by Thomas L. Good, reviews the evolution of educational beliefs, curriculum content, and teaching practices in American elementary schools over the full span of the twentieth century. The opening chapter presents an overview of the changing society and culture of this eventful century and records linkages between these changes and issues in education that marked the development of public schooling. The authors note that three issues appear relatively constant: debates over school control, questions of equity, and the growth of teaching as a profession."--Jacket
Teacher-student relationships: causes and consequences by Jere E Brophy( Book )

15 editions published between 1974 and 1976 in English and held by 847 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is about the kinds of individual differences in students that make differential impressions on teachers, the ways that such differential impressions lead teachers to form differential attitudes and expectations regarding different students, and the ways that these differential teacher attitudes and expectations begin to affect teacher-student interaction patterns. Attention is focused on several interrelated investigations by the authors and their colleagues, although the general literature relevant to these topics is reviewed and discussed. In the first chapter evidence is cited showing that teachers behave quite differently toward different students in their classrooms, and that the treatment of some students is so consistently inappropriate as to erode their general confidence and aspirations. To understand the psychological impact of schooling on individual students, it is necessary to observe teachers and students during their day-to-day activities in schools. This book brings together much of the psychological research that has been conducted in classroom settings, and in particular almost all of the available research on intraclass group and individual differences among students as they affect classroom interaction patterns.
