Keeper of concentration camps : Dillon S. Myer and American racism by Richard Drinnon( )

12 editions published between 1987 and 1989 in English and held by 2,377 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Analyzing the career of Dillon S. Myer, Director of the War Relocation Authority during WWII and Commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs from 1950-53, Richard Drinnon shows that the pattern for the Japanese internment was set a century earlier by the removal, confinement, and scattering of Native Americans."--Provided by publisher
Facing west : the metaphysics of Indian-hating and empire-building by Richard Drinnon( Book )

25 editions published between 1980 and 1997 in 3 languages and held by 2,106 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"American expansion, says Richard Drinnon, is characterized by repression and racism. In his reinterpretation of "winning" the West, Drinnon links racism with colonialism and traces this interrelationship from the Pequot War in New England, through American expansion westward to the Pacific, and beyond to the Philippines and Vietnam. He cites parallels between the slaughter of bison on the Great Plains and the defoliation of Vietnam and notes similarities in the language of aggression used in the American West, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia."--BOOK JACKET

Anarchism : and other essays by Emma Goldman( Book )

6 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 613 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The essays are a bit propagandistic and repetitive, but still relevant and worth reading. It was striking to me that we're still fighting many of the same battles and dealing with many of the same issues after nearly 100 years (specifically issues of sex education, gender inequality, exorbitant prison spending, and wrongful imprisonment). Even more striking is how forward-thinking Goldman was for her time. Her reduction of all struggle to class conflict is disappointing, but there are many, many points at which she thinks beyond the dominant beliefs and theories of her own time. -- Review from http://www.goodreads.com (June 29, 2012.)
