The O'Ruddy : a romance by Stephen Crane( Book )

2 editions published between 1926 and 1961 in English and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Stephen Crane worked on The O'Ruddy while lying in bed dying from tuberculosis. His health had been failing for years, but Crane smoked cigarettes constantly and refused to give them up even as he was dying of a respiratory disease. He worked on the book at a feverish pace, owing to the fact that his health was worsening and his financial situation was dire. Crane hoped that if he could finish the book, both would improve. Time worked against him, and The O'Ruddy was completed by author Robert Barr following Crane's death. It tells a madcap romantic tale set largely in England that is vastly different than the gritty war stories of his early career
