The early years of His Royal Highness the prince consort by
Charles Grey(
Book
)
30 editions published between 1867 and 2012 in 3 languages and held by 485 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Originally written for private circulation among the Royal Family, this book, written by Lieutenant-General Charles Grey (1804-70), was first published in 1867. It details Prince Albert's life from his birth in 1819 through to his wedding to Queen Victoria and the first year of their married life. The Queen commissioned Grey, who had been secretary to both Albert and herself, as her husband's biographer, and the book was granted a wider publication, so that all who read it would 'tend to a better and higher appreciation of Prince Albert's great character'. Sourced from letters and memoranda, the book traces the development of Albert from an intelligent and gentle boy to the intellectual and moral compass of a nation. It records Albert's first visits to England, the wedding, his love for his adopted country and life in London, and includes details such as an attempted assassination of the Queen

Victoria(
Book
)
3 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 341 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
These letters cover Queen Victoria's life up to the death of Prince Albert in 1861. The aim of the collection is to reveal the Queen's essential character, rather than to follow the many events and transactions of her reign. Her writings show that she was no verbal artist, but her voice, unlike that of any other British monarch, can be heard in her letters - consoling, confirming, rebuking and cajoling. The letters show clearly the laborious patience and social movements of her time

Sent to the Detroit frontier, he led a force to Bois Blanc Island on 9 Jan. 1838, was captured, tried by court martial, sentenced to the penal colony in Van Dieman's Land, and sent to Quebec to wait for transportation. While there he employed his considerable skill in prose and verse by writing Loose Leaves from the Portfolio of a Late Patriot Prisoner in Canada [1840], which he published in New York in 1839 following his release in August 1838 on the grounds that his trails and sentence had been unconstitutional. He followed this work with three political letters addressed to Dr. Wolfred Nelson (New York. 1840); A Letter to Her Majesty....; and A letter to Lord Brougham, on behalf of the captive patriots (New York, 1841).
