This highly readable volume examines the status of the monetary and nonmonetary incentive plans in 17 school districts 10 years after the Urban Institute's first review of them and presents new findings and recommendations. A section on career ladder programs as they relate to teacher incentives reflects the increased use of such plans during the past decade. Case studies identify the current status of the incentive plans; the major changes that have occurred over the last 10 years; and the relative impacts of the plans on teacher performance, teacher motivation, and school climate

Obtaining citizen feedback: the application of citizen surveys to local governments by Kenneth W Webb( Book )

9 editions published in 1973 in English and Undetermined and held by 469 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report explores the potential value to city and county governments of citizen surveys, particularly those undertaken on a regular annual basis. The report is based mainly on an examination of the Dayton Public Opinion Center, on published literature dealing with survey sampling, and on Urban Institute experiences with the use of local citizen surveys in various projects. Separate chapters of the report discusses the various uses of citizen surveys, dangers in conducting citizen surveys, survey procedures, costs and funding sources for surveys, organizational options for conducting surveys, and the author's conclusions and recommendations. Four examples of survey questionnaires are included in the appendix, and a selected bibliography of relevant publications is presented. (Author/JG)

An introduction to sample surveys for government managers by Carol H Weiss( Book )

7 editions published between 1970 and 1971 in English and held by 215 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report is intended to provide government managers with some perspective on the nature and implications of sample surveys, their likely costs, and what can be expected from them. The authors discuss sample surveys less from the technical side than from the perspective of the officials who will make management decisions about an overall survey. Little attention is devoted to specific research methods, though the bibliography lists publications that provide such information. Much of the discussion applies to surveys in which government employees, rather than private citizens, supply the responses. Separate chapters discuss the overall sample survey process and the steps involved; the advantages of conducting a survey under government auspices, rather than through a university or private research organization; the costs involved in each phase of a survey; factors affecting the accuracy of a survey; and some further considerations in conducting a survey. The appendix contains tables that illustrate costs of conducting sample surveys of different types and scope. (Author/JG)
